I remember playing all different courses and always seeing that Billy Dunk had the course record.
Yeah, he lives up our way last time I heard, although a mate was doing a job with him more down Terry’s way recently (he installs doors nowadays, still hingeing). I played at his course (Gosford) just on Sunday coincidentally. I’m sure Rod will know how to track him down if he hasn’t already, but if not let me know.
I found the video of this kid on a recent and rare visit to ISG, someone had posted it. He’s unbelievable… he’s even got that Hogan/Norman/Hughes right foot rear drag going on, not to mention all the rest of it. There’s just so much to learn from kids swinging the club, they’re genii of natural motion…
I agree Bom. Kids are amazing. I think its to do with the club being too heavy for them to swing it with their arms. They have use body. I wanted to show you my son’s golf swing but thought it might come across as showy. He is in his flip flops.
Good stuff, Macs, thanks for sharing. He looks like he’s doing some good things…
I think with really young kids there are two things in play. The weight of the club vs the strength of their arms and hands, makes it fall in space very well- you can see that clearly with that kid coming into impact in that sequence, the club is literally dropping behind into the perfect spot. They end up using their legs to move it because that’s where they feel strongest. They all take a step away with the club and there’s lots to learn from that move!
The other thing which is really the essence of their advantage, is their COG is closer to their feet than the ball is. With grown ups, that structure is switched so it looks and feels like we’re above the ball, because we sort of are, and the instinct is then to swing up and down. Kids are basically looking along the ground at the ball, it’s probably not crossing their minds that they’re above it, so they swing around. There really is so much to learn from what they do.
Anyone have any videos of Jodie Mudd from the 80’s.
3Jack’s blog, and Manzella’s fruit market forum, received a couple hits when I typed it in the search bar , but nothing is there to see. Hey IOZ…this is right up your alley…hack in somewhere for a Mudd video and blame it on me! RR
Hey Aiguille…is your avatar a picture grab ( Rat is learning computer lingo ) from a video sequence. If it is…can you provide a link to it when you have time. RR
? Why do I always sign off with “RR” when everyone knows it’s me…a little redundant in my book…no more! RR
I wonder if, after hearing the camera click, Mr. Hogan aborted his downswing in a herky halt and had his caddy angrily pursue Bob Thomas threatening bodily harm.
I have a feeling it was at practice in London before a Ryder Cup one year…or before the Canada Cup at Wentworth that he won with Snead… there is another photo from that day from the other direction that Lag uses to show ‘holding the flex’
Apparently I’ve got a Snead thing going on lately. I just love how he passes through impact, fantastic. He’s hitting driver off the deck here. An interesting thing to note is how deep he is with his hands in the last frame- they’re even deeper than their location in frame 1, as you can see against the trees in the background, with the shoulders/pivot in pretty much the same but opposite location. Suffice it to say, he’s not going ‘up and back’’ through impact.
