Don’t mean to threadjack you RR, but I do love me some SRV and I do love me some Eric Johnson, so I couldn’t help but post a quick video which combines the two.
The more I look at these great masters of the guitar the more I believe they’d move through mod 1 in about a week. Those are some STRONG hands and wrists.
Just wish I had the patience and aptitude to play guitar. I’ve tried and I don’t.
Well if that’s a threadjack, go ahead and do it whenever the desire hits…good stuff.
I don’t own the thread Rat Droppings, nor do I want to. It’s just a place to meander and talk about things just like any other group of people might. Twists and turns keeps things active, and one never knows what insights will come from those unexpected direction changes. Besides…I couldn’t stay on topic if I tried…and I love how Bom can go off topic…he’s a natural! And speaking of direction changes…
…I was looking at Hogan’s cover the other day, and it struck me how the picture of the R hand and how one loads the same hand into a bowling ball has similarities in form and function.
Great stuff, RR. That thumb/bird finger relationship is a big deal, imo. I think we must be psychically channeling eachother these days- I’ve been thinking a lot about this very thing.
Cheers…
As Twomasters would say, ‘you’ve got to earn your grip’…
There’s a Buddhist phrase that goes something like ‘if you’re hungry, you’ll get no benefit from me eating’. I reckon Mr. Mississippi John Hurt was trying to express a similar sentiment. Golf is no different.

Yep…gotta walk the valley by yourself. Can get all the advice you want…still gotta walk it, preferably with metal spikes, and dig it out as Hogan said.
A wide variety is apparent in music tastes. Some can bend the ball all different ways. There can’t be a lot of Irish lads from your county that even know of John Hurt. Do they play his stuff at hoolies?
This is a quote from the movie The Commitments. If you haven’t seen it, I’d highly recommend watching it!
“Do you not get it, lads? The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I’m black and I’m proud.”
Colm Meaney’s greatest role. Wow. You are single handedly turning this thread sublime. If anyone reading this hasn’t seen The Commitments, change that. Tonight.
As for soul, well, isn’t that what ABS is all about, really?
You either feel it, and know it’s right, and try to groove better, or ya don’t.
@Robbo that Eric Johnson link was bitchin’. Truly.
Cheers, H. Have you seen The Snapper? Or, The Van? Roddy Doyle was the author of the books that those films were made from- The Barrytown Trilogy. He’s not afraid to go dark, though he’s hilarious all the while- all soul. Inner city Dublin stories- they basically tell the story of my upbringing. Colm Meaney was in all of them too- he’s just priceless. If you liked him in The Commitments, you’re in for a treat if you haven’t seen the other ones…
Cheers,
BOM
It’s late enough, and I can’t figure out what the ‘Vinne thread’ is… usually it takes me saying I can’t figure something out, in order to figure it out, so maybe I’ll get back to you…
In the mean time, here are an unlikely pair from Ohio, called The Black Keys… not sure if anybody is familiar with them… top notch… The album that this song is from, The Big Come Up, is just magic! These guys are the real deal, so much good stuff I don’t even know where to begin…
Here I was getting up for some nice irish stew and soda bread later this week…now I guess I’ll have to settle for some fried chicken and collard greens. A fuzzy angle for a winner’s recipe there somewhere…let’s see, where is that little green dude…oh, there he is
A while back there was a thread about straight left arm, feel or real. At some point a photo of Vinnie’s tackle showed up.
The poster’s choice of pix was sublime: a straight left arm, a definite feel, and given the row it stirred up (not to mention the look on the feel-ees face) it was certainly real.
Juxtaposition like that is an art; working football into a golf thread, and keeping it spot on? Brilliant.
Another day with too much time on my hands. Can’t believe the amount of stuff on YT for viewing. Came across this one that is illustrative in a strong way. This is a prime example of the types of things I watch daily at the range…and is a good example of not only the wrong way to do things, but also an example of one not being in touch with what happens naturally and how to harness that process.
If I was sitting in my lawn chair at the range drinking coke and hitting on a Kool watching this in silence, I would be crawling out of my skin and would feel a need to walk up to this person and say…“what in the hell are you doing?” But I would just sit back and go about my day.
Don’t watch anything but the footwork…unconnected stuff any way you look at it. He downloads the feet twice and uploads out of them twice all within one motion.
Here’s the part he’s not getting. On every shot he uses the R foot to stabalize the ball to its location…every shot! He then uses the R foot to kick over the basket of balls…he even clangs the clubhead off his right foot to clean it I guess. In any event, if he would tap into things like that he would be far better off for starters. So he probably has good footwork hiding in him somewhere.
