Very interesting looking set! What’s the year? And any background on H&B for us American blokes?

Actually can’t pin these down on www.ironfinder.com
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillerich_&_Bradsby
I’m hoping someone might be able to date these?
No idea that was Louisville Slugger’s golf brand. Been here, their downtown Louisvulle museum, by the way, I don’t remember seeing any golf material displayed:

i bought a set of 1970 bounce soles on ebay about a month ago. not having any experience with adjusting lies and lofts, lag suggested i get in touch with sweetswinger, who lives in my area. he is very nice and generous with his time; enough so to stop by my apartment to pick up my clubs to bring to his club maker. i’ll post pictures when i get them back, which should be soon.
if anyone cares, i went with these specs (old(er) school lofts and roughly 5 to 6 degrees flat):
club loft lie
2 18 52
3 22 53
4 26 54
5 30 55
6 34 56
7 38 56.5
8 42 57
9 46 57.5
e 50 58
by the way, while talking with sweetswinger, he mentioned that his kids have a band called murder mystery, and were performing at the mercury lounge downtown. i went to see them and they were great! i bought their album called “are you ready for the heartache cause here it comes” on itunes. great album!

Any idea bout which Hogan irons are these ?
The seller thinks personal , but these do not look like the 83 limited edition personal model. ?? Saber model …
thanks William,
I can say having seen both the clubs and the band, William is right on all counts!!
I am nearly guessing by the grips and especially the shafts they are not personal model…gotta be before that era… I don’t know what the saber is?..but if they are precision model which could almost go hand in hand with the shaft I.D and that era and are in such great condition you may have struck gold…keep us posted
I believe those are the Precision Sunburst model from 1958. I was interested in them, but not at $310.

Thanks Brad and richie .
Richie , do you have the source as to these being PRECISION’S from 1958?
It is hard to find any precisions in good condition or personals for less than 300 bucks , specially matching serials and same shaft .
I will be posting pics of my Hogans one of these days .
I love the bounce sole’s. Those are the ones i am gaming currently .
The source we used to use was the old BenHogan.com Web site. But now that’s changed. I have pretty much memorized all of the blade irons on the club. The 1983 Personal irons say ‘PERSONAL’ on the back stamp. The 1958 Precisions have the Starburst symbol.

I have never owned a set of vintage blades with modern shafts in but I couldn’t resist this set of 58/59 Dynas with S300s in which were refinished about 15 years ago. Be interesting to see how they play against he original. Nice to look at even if they don’y play as well. They cost under $100 as I spotted the fact hat they were a mixed set with 2 of the hosels displaying he arrow identifying them as the 58 version and the rest being 59. thats the only difference I believe. Makes no difference to me but would obviously put collectors off thus the knock down price.
Cheers, Arnie
Nice AA…they look in great shape and ‘moderned up’ some…I think they are just about Lag’s favorite grips also…can’t tell because the logo is hidden but think they are the ‘pro only’ grip
Thanks Two. Yes they have Pro Only grips. Out of the house at 6am this morning to give them a hit before work. Sadly overnight frost meant I couldn’t take them on the course but hit a few on the practice ground and they were really really great. I had beeen slightly worried that the refurb might have lost some of the weightiness of the club but they still felt really nice and heavy to me. Just really solid all round - quite a high trajectory I thought. Interesting about the “moderning up” particularly of the faces which really do look like a modern iron. When you make that many changes - modern shaft, modern finish to the face etc - is is a vintage club at all any more? Don’t know, guess I won’t lose too much sleep over it.
Cheers, Arnie
I also picked up these Tourney Customs which I guess would probably be mid 80’s maybe early 90’s - does anyone have a clue? They have that really nice wingback muscle look. Quite similar to the M85 Colokrom and non Colokrom remakes of the 80’s that MacGregor made. The shafts have no labels but I think they are stiff (TT Dynamic stiff at a guess). Quite an interesting grind on them as well.
Cheers, Arnie
Nice Arnie,
Maybe I should get you these for Christmas this year to complete your awesome collection.

Since I started ABS about three weeks ago I’ve gotten a few “new” sets of irons. Here are some pic’s. They are wilson staff FG-17 (not sure the year), 58 or 59 (I think) dyna power, 83 or so Hogan Apex PC’s, and 70 (again I think) Hogan bounce sole +1. The dyna’s have a shaft called true temper pro fit. I’ve never heard of that (see picture) and the bounce sole’s have a TT Lite (see picture). I had planned if I like the bounce sole’s to get them reshafted as the Lite is a regular flex.
Some great choices there JR - nice job in 3 weeks!
Cheers, Arnie
FWIW, I have the Apex PC’s with DG S300 shafts in them that are standard length (5-iron is 37.75" long). I haven’t touched the lofts. And in my experience, I hit them JUST AS FAR as my new Mizuno MP-62’s. Of course, hitting irons well isn’t about distance, but I know that has been a concern for some golfers here and as long as you have some new shafts that are standard length, I’ve found you don’t have to worry about distance in the end.

One of my recent ebay finds: the mac split sole wedge (11 iron). This looks a lot like a wedge that Lag uses.
I just hit some shots with it from a range mat and I really like it. It lets you open up the face while keeping the leading edge snug to the ground. This will definitely go in the bag next week!
P.S. If anyone knows what shaft (flex) this is please let me know.
