sb944, i happened to spot an entire set of LH MacGregor irons and woods on a Dutch auction site earlier today. I’ll try to see if the seller has some additional pictures, and i’ll see how much shipping to Oz is if you’re interested.
Probably best to see if 84425 can get some close up pics and then he and a few others might be able to give you sone advice - they look promising to me. But depends it you are comfortable going retro etc.
OK, I am comfortable going retro. I mean if retro means sacrificing a lot for very little, no I’m not into that. If it means sacrificing distance on mis-hits and gaining more feel, I’m into it 100%.
I’d love some closer up pics if at all possible, mainly for the experts, and a price.
Anybody know anything about these Yamahas? I think there was a bit in this thread on the Sutton Grind sx-25 models, but these look interesting too, albeit not a full set. They’re pinned, so I’d image they’re older…
Anyone looking for some iron sets from the 50s-60s?
Saw some yesterday mac tourney m85s and m75s, tony lema golden gates, mac with the carbon inserts, powerbilts
email me off list. Club collector has them in San jose. I can pick them up Friday on my way back to the eastbay.
The m85s had a 7iron that was a m75 1950-54(2 thru 9 iron)
and reg. M75s had a 2iron that was a m85 1950-54 (2 thru 9 iron)
he had a set of Mac tourneys mt1 1965
old apex don’t know year or model
powerbilts levelumes and citations
these cool looking Tony lema golden gates
a bunch of persimmons eye o matics
I wish I would have taken pics. I think I can get them pretty cheap.
Probably 50.00 per set. I’m new to vintage clubs so I am not sure
what’s a good deal. I did buy a set of Wilson dynas 1958 and another
set of mac colokroms m85s 1957 for 100.00
let me know if you are interested in one of the sets.
I think you did wonderfully well - two of the finest sets ever for $100, thats good going in anyones book!Love to see some pictures of the sets that you bought when you get a chance.
I understand I need grips and shafts, but realistically that was going to happen anyway with a lot of clubs, so might as well cut the crap and start with just a head. How do these irons rate for quality? Any thoughts/issues with these?
What’s weird about that listing however is amongst all the pictures they’ve shown of them, one shows right handed heads. Shadowing suggests it is a computer flip however, not a different set.
Also it could be lighting but it some club heads look to have a gloss finish, the others a matt.
I love Dynas as well - I have tried a 62, 65 and 71 and a custom grind version from the mid 70’s. I have liked them all and hope to get a 59 and 73 set shortly.
Bent - are you going to whip out the aluminium shafts or just see how you go? I had some in a set of Haig Ultras and I wasn’t that keen on them.
sb944, i received some pictures of the seller of the LH McG irons. They look well-used and too be honest, they didn’t look like they were very good quality irons either. If still interested I could forward you the pictures. No idea how much the seller want for the set, but postage to australia will be either €34,20 (2-5Kg) or €57,10 (5-10Kg). My guess is that waiting just a little longer will give a better result. Either a nice LH set will pop up very cheap in the US, of Australia.
sb944 - I agree with 84425 - it won’t be long before something good pops up so I would just keep looking - I will keep a look out and I am sure others will as well.
