Here’s an old set of the irons Lag used to play with in the pro ranks in the late 80’s. hands off until he says he doesn’t want them !!

Here’s an old set of Maxflis also- these have great heads- photos don’t show the wear and tear however. may be average condition

Maxfli DP 30 irons- these are the ants pants. Wouldn’t pay $400 for them as we are bargain hunters here!
They probably never made a better looking set than these. The Australian Blade ones are excellent. If anyone can ever get their hands on a set that were Dunlop DP30 made in Japan- they are incredible. I scour all the time for a set but they never turn up. I used a set of the Japan model ones for a few years and beat them to death. Wish I knew what on earth happened to them- especially with re chrome being available these days, as I would resurrect them for sure

This one just for those who did well in their money game at the weekend:

These look decent, although the posting is a little hard to follow re the PW and 8 iron. Worth a look I think.

Could do with a few of these alerts being in the UK

Looking at some of the stuff on ebay makes me think back about 20 years ago and the blades/persimmon I used to play with as a junior. Wilson Staff Irons and Woods, John Letters Master Model, Dunlop Gary Player, Maxfli Australian Blades - all consigned to be traded in at the professional shop when I had a bad score!

If only I’d have kept them all!

Hi Zachsdad,

There is quite a lot of stuff on ebay UK, though obviously not as good as the US. A few quick thoughts as my cupboards are overflowing at the mo :unamused:

Dunlop Arnold Palmer 2-PW - spotted by Two a while back

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220486889391&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Wilson Staff Dynapower Custom Grinds 2-PW - these have finished (they have been through twice) but no bidders mean that you might be able to make an offer or perhaps you live close and can pick up? I have a set of these and they are nice - quite unusual, very sharp leading edge.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280419254195&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Wilson Staff Dynapower 3-9 - only 3 to 9 but look like 1965 with stiff original shaft in great nick. Again been through twice already so mght be worth contacting seller with an offer.

Maxfli Australian Blades - maybe not the most sort after version but reasonable value

Happy hunting.

Maxfli Australian Blades - maybe not the most sort after version but reasonable value

these irons are great looking. I have the black dot version- from memory the red dot was a different year or a different country of sale but almost identical in head shape. I am actually smacking these around at the moment. The grooves are very thin and not deep but I had absolutely NO trouble spinning the ball with them. Heads are great.

Dunlop DP30 model- are the ants pants and the bees knees- terrific irons. The set Arnie posted are Aussie model DP30
Japan model is almost the ultimate looking and feeling iron I have ever had

Arnie’s wife and I won’t get along!!! I keep sending him all these ebay alerts on sets of clubs I find and see. I am filling up his closet for him…she will get mad at me soon !!! …all good stuff however

Anyone desperate enough to want to know more about the different flavours of Australian Blade might find this thread on another site useful: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=170737

Cheers, Arnie

Is there any opportunities for the lefties? To make matters worse I live in Sydney, and not all foreign ebayers ship to here. It might help if I understand the way you guys do your searches.

Hi,

Not much on ebay australia so I think US is your best bet by far. No magic on the searches - just golf clubs / iron sets / x manufacturer etc.

Good luck, Arnie

Something I’ve been using for a few years now is Ebay desktop. It works in the background doing searches for you. The search Emails feature on Ebay is another alternative and there are far more sophisticated programs that include sniping, but this one just works nicely and doesn’t bug me. And it’s free.

I played the “Pro Specials” for most of my touring career through the 80’s and early 90’s. One of the cleanest looking purest sets I have ever seen.

Found this one, nothing else I could see even in the US:
cgi.ebay.com/MacGREGOR-LH-JACK-N … 35a2fec7e8

Are these even worth shipping to Aus do you think? Where do I go to see what these clubs were like in the day?

Lag,
Back in 60’s and 70’s seemed like everyone used the same irons and woods from a particular manufacturer. Today we see variety in everyone’s bag sometimes up to 5 different manufactures. Did you stay with one company back in the 70’s or a couple. Today each company specializes whether it be putters, irons, hybrids, wedges, or woods. Why did it change? Competition? Money? Endorsements?

For the right hand persimmon man who wants to undertake a refinish project

here’s an older Titleist driver that has been re done- came out quite nice looking. Says stiff shaft so could be a winner for someone

Power Built from the same seller

cgi.ebay.com/POWERBILT-RARE-Set- … 8765QQcmdZ

full set of Power Built lefties- would need a cut back and clean up but for $20 for 4 club !! a bargain
