If I may I call dibs on the RC945 4 wood, the Wood Bros 3 wood with the solid white insert, the BG1W 4 wood & the 6 screw M85W driver. There’s no need to bid all over each other on these beauties and there’s more than enough to spread around. I’d love love love to pick up that All-American but I know the price is gonna go thru the roof.
Post what anyone wants to bid on this thread so nobody goes broke please.
I have my eye on that 5-screw M85W, which is a bit of a strange item. White/Red/White EOM insert instead of a White/Black/White insert. 5-screws, but “Eye-O-Matic” on the soleplate.
Nice thing about this collection is that so many of the oldies have been reshafted with DG and possibly refinished so they’ll keep the high dollar collectors away who look for all original only. I saw that other EOM too I don’t remember any like that with T pattern screws. I’ve got Bud McVey’s '48 Tommy Armour driver with the solid red insert with the 5 tiny screws in an X pattern and almost all the 5 screw patterns I’ve seen were always an X rather than a T. I want the other one because from the pic it looks like it has more carbon deposits than anything I’ve ever seen. Could be a camera thing but I don’t think so. There’s a lot of heads with sketchy grain so take a look before anyone bids. One thing for sure, whoever this guy’s dad was, he was a player with great taste rather than just a collector.
The 5-screw pattern was only used for one year when the introduced the eye-o-matic insert in '51 or '52. After that they changed to 6 screws. The '51 or '52 M85’s normally don’t have the Eye-O-Matic engraved on the soleplate. And the White/Red/White insert is usually found on the M75W not the M85W. Here’s a pic of my M85W.
I took my first lesson from Lionel Hebert in 1956. I used my father’s MacGregor Tourney clubs, he had the complete set, including 4 persimmon woods. They were D4, stiff flex. I gripped down almost to the metal, but they were still awful hefty. Perhaps these clubs were a factor in my being a hooker from day one. Anyway, thanks for bringing back fond memories.
How much are 5 flex shafts worth? Theres a lefty set here at a pawn shop but its grouped together with some other junk. They want like around $120 for it…
