I think that could very well be the case. Most golfers when they are young learn on clubs that have been handed to them by their parents or the local club pro. If you go back into the 1940’s and before… you see some really flat stuff. Lots of 45 degree stock lie angle persimmons. Some of the hickory stuff is incredibly flat. They had a lot of stuff right back then. Clubs have become more and more upright over the years. Upright gear does not help a player rotate flat through the shot.
From looking at Lema’s action, it appears his shoulder rotation was flatter on the irons and steeper into the longer clubs. I would suspect his miss with the driver was left. I’ll ask Barkow about it see if I’m correct. I would guess is iron play was stellar, and driver was long but not as accurate a some. Seems he played a bit better in The British Open and Masters than The US Open and PGA which the prior typically being a bit more forgiving off the tee.
Is his swing an example of the super slotting that you discussed on here? From what i remember he had a somewhat upright backswing but from these photos it looks like hes coming in really shallow and then really working the club left post impact.
might not be the worst combo to at least have in the locker as we work toward level through the bag i guess. I hit a few with a more swinger release yesterday (something i’ve not done all year) & added 40 yds to my drives, i can definitely swing release it more solid than i could this time last year.
10 months working on hitting & i’m a way better swinger than i was
not sure what that says, except that i suspect i am stronger & more structured now, & have some new post impact intentions even with a swing-release.
I saw this swing of Gary Player the other day, i know he has a Hoganesque type release, but i was surprised to see his clubface alignment if you pause at 27-28 seconds, the clubface is really closed is pointing straight to the ground, and i have never seen Hogan have the much clubface roll in his finish. It seems like this much clubface roll would not be ideal if you really want to control your shots. Was this something that Player did alot, based on his aim and what Welty wrote is appears he was hitting a big draw. youtube.com/watch?v=vMzCi1RmNX0
That’s a great picture. I dont think ive ever seen anyone who has as little clubface roll through impact as Furyk. Does anyone know how he limits clubface roll through impact so much. Is it a result of how open his body is at impact?
I thought this would be a good swing to post here. Calvin Peete has been mentioned before on this site, and ive always liked the way he goes through the ball, with the level rotation and club really cutting left postimpact. Ive been working with Bradley and my ballstriking has gotten alot more consistent as i get closer to this type of release.
That’s why we teach it. It works… it’s reliable… you can feel it in a much more definitive way, and it is supported by many of the finest strikers of all time…
I just watched this Stan Leonard video like 80 zillion times in a row. The movements of the hips, knees, and feet are fascinating. I’m gonna watch it another 80 zillion times… burn it in to the brain…
not sure how to cut and paste etc. so some good swing footage at 1:38 through to 1.53, brilliant bit about rotation of wrists and hands on downswing at 3:27 through to 3.39
