The eye of the storm… ![]()

Does anyone know how to make those photos smaller? A
They turn my computer into an old type writer I have to scroll so far across…
Though if that’s Lag’s face peering through eye, then it’s well worth the trip…
Small World indeed. This guy is copying my follow through. ![]()
I suppose these threads get a bit sidetracked at times… but there might be an argument for good ground pressures, hip rotation and some spine tilt if flipped around.
My debut on the silver screen lasted exactly 5 seconds if you count it out. I had a couple of emails about it this morning so here is the story.
A friend of mine Oliver and I were sipping tea and dining on some hummus in a swanky Las Vegas lounge off the strip one evening, and the casting director for the film just happened to be in there and spotted us, and came over to our table, and insisted we be in this new movie coming out… and that she need a couple extra 70’s looking guys for this flashback scene being shot at the Flamingo Hotel in two days. It sounded a bit suspicious when she mentioned who was going to be in the movie… Julia Roberts, Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and so forth… but she insisted it was all legit and we would get paid scale. So the next morning we are getting fitted down on the south side of the strip, and the hair and makeup guy turns me into a long haired, mustached, side burned 70’s throwback complete with a wide lapel leisure suit, just like Johnny Miller used to model back in the day, and a cool pair of retro shoes that you can’t really see. The mustache and sideburns were glued on… pretty fun stuff.
So on the day of the shoot, this whole scene took about 3 hours to do… and the last shot was down by the door, so I figured in advance that this guy was going to be running out the door with the cash box, so I took a stroll down there, and noticed a stunt mat on the ground, and an “X” on the ground next to that. I figured the X was the camera placement for the stunt, so I grabbed that spot before the second shot was being done, so when everyone moved down for the last shot, I had the spot locked in on the other side of the mat, and sure enough, they wheeled the camera down, and it was pointing right at me. I figured if I am going to waste my whole day doing this, I might as well get in the movie! So we do one practice run, and my initial reaction was to turn around, back up, and put my arms out wide to protect the other patrons from the arrested criminal! The director Steven Soderbergh loved what I did, and said “oh that was great! just like that… I love the arms out!” So the next run was the take.
Never knowing if it would end up on the cutting room floor as many scenes get edited out, it was fun to go the theater and see it, and for a couple seconds after the guy hits the ground with lots of pressure! They freeze framed that shot… and I have center screen after he falls, which was fun.
I never went to the cattle calls or tried to be in another film, nor did I ever have any interest in acting, but it’s a fun little thing to have done. It’s really turned into a classic film, so I guess all in all, it’s a good one to be in. How can you go wrong being in a film with Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt?
Drag them into a powerpoint presentation(if you have it)- I like to use the blank ‘slide layout’ and then save as jpeg in documents from the ‘save as’ pull down menu… it will go into your ‘finder’. Open it up and click on it, and it will open as a slide- then click on ‘drawer’ on the top left which will open a ‘drawer’ to the side of the slide… drag that into iphotos and it will then be a jpeg… let me know if that works or makes any sense…
Btw, admin/mods, is it at all possible to shrink that photo up there- I never did like typewriters…
Cheers

Thanks Eagle. This is the photo I remember seeing way, way back in the day. This is the photo that clicked in my mind when I was reading “The Elliot Wave Theory”! This is the photo that started it all for me twenty years ago. Thank you again.
Some notes:
Notice how perfectly the hands circle the True Centre (dantien, tantien, center of Chi, center of gravity, etc.). The stable and pure center assures that the hands will return to the ball according to the pure intention of the golfer. In other words, the Centre is turning about the Centre. Therefore, the hands and the Centre have a perfectly reciprocating relationship.
The closer the images appear to each other in the strobe, the slower the object is moving. The clearest indication of the spiral occur as the hands are slowing down and moving toward transition (from “to” to “fro”). In the lexicon at goldengolf, this is called “Waning.” They again indicate spiral properties as the hands move toward the end of the follow through (the second “Waning”).
Look how perfectly Jones creates “the eye of the hurricane.”
This is a prime example of the conservation of angular momentum.
This is a man experiencing “True Gravity.” He is creating it within his own sphere of movement.
When we experience this action of “True Gravity” we cannot recall the content of the swing. Furthermore, the sensation of time shrinks to nothing. This was, and still remains, at the heart of the foundation of goldengolf.com. This is at the heart of it despite my occasional detours through the minefield of method.
I’ll give you an example. My children never really ever used training wheels when they were first learning how to ride a bike. Why? Well I used a simple toy to explain (to each one individually as they approached bike riding age) why they wouldn’t fall over. We used to play with a gyroscope. I used to pull the string, get the thing spinning fast, and then set it on their fingers. Of course, children are fascinated that the thing stands up and oscillates on the finger and won’t fall over as long as it spins. To teach them to ride a bike, I would get the gyroscope spinning fast. Then I would lay it on its side and have my kids watch how it would roll all the way across the room without falling over. Then, I said “you’re bicycle wheel is just like the gyroscope. The faster it spins, the more it wants to stay up on its own.” Then I said something to the effect that on a bike you have two gyroscopes lined up together. That makes it even easier! I allowed this concept to just settle in on their minds. When they were ready to ride the bike … they just did it! Of course, I had to help them learn how to get on and off efficiently and so forth. But they understood that the quicker they could get their gyroscope spinning, the easier it would be.
In golf we also have a gyroscope. In the backswing, we wind the string … in the through swing, we are pulling the string. In any case, we are creating a gravitational field.

Thanks for the photo editing there, Lag/Mod person… I appreciate that…
So, does anyone know how the nautilus grows? Does it expand as it is as it gets bigger or does it grow in that spiraling way adding bits at a time? It’s got a weird contradiction in it’s structure in that it’s appearing to be accelerating or ‘growing’ inwards in terms of it’s ‘holding of the flex’. It’s confusing to me… any thoughts?

Teebox…what a great thread this has been…a real eye-opener in many respects…and with sense of poetic irony while looking for “the cheese” since finding ABS.
The cheese has been found…and oddly enough it has been protected by a spiral all along and was right in front of my rodent eyes…daring me to find it and touch it!
I give you my avatar…and its loaded spiral protecting the cheese…but the cheese is one with the spiral…a harmony ready to unleash its energy into those willing to step forward into the trap and exert the vertical pressures needed to activate the process.
Me and my second cousin “Ben”, who never liked being a pet rat, have some channeling to do with my, oddly enough, Channelbacks.
Great stuff Teebox…you too Bom and Lag…heck great stuff everyone!
RR
Damn, that’s clever!
I do the same thing with my kids…with 2 caveats:
-
I start them at the top of a large hill so their “dual gyroscope” gets going about 35mph.
-
No helmets. It’s a Darwin thing. The one’s that don’t make it…I can make more. A bit like the Lay’s potato chip commercials.

Didn’t Moe Norman say: “I balance my swing, my swing balances me”…or something like that?
Maybe that is what he meant.
This is all getting close to some of my thinking. GG, I wonder what you mean by ‘circle’, ‘stable’, and, ‘return’
You make a few very pertinent points.
I think this is exactly what Knudson was talking about, and Shivas in Golf in the Kingdom.
If you look at Hogan closely, you’ll notice how his hips move through impact frame by frame. Most tour players I watch today stall their hips through impact, and most hackers turn them too soon, and stall them that way.
goldengolf,
This may be the updated version of the book you were perusing in the 1980’s…
The original book has the swing on the bottom portion of the cover, this updated version is lightly different.

Everyone,
I appreciate and look forward to all of your posts. Tons to think from all of your thoughtful input and to laugh about from your gut busting wacky high jinks too. Great times. Great stuff.
Best,
