Probably could have put this into any number of topic areas: Nautilus; A Question About Rotation; LTLGM, etc. Wasn’t sure, so:

Here’s how I’m feeling holding pressure out of P4 and into PV5: or going left and right at the same time during that period of time. With this trimmer, the end of the trimmer line ( toe of the club ) never really loses it relationship to a path line. If the rotary mechanism driving the lines slows, the ends of the trimmer lines will seek an inline pretty quick and leave its relationship. Also, think it’s important to know why the trimmer, attacking the horizontal plane of the grass from a flat lie can cut both ways: left and right with the only constant being the rotation of the spool. Additionally, how would one take that trimmer and rip the grass up an angled slope post impact- which would be “up the plane”.

Was observing people yesterday at the range…no one, and I mean no one accelerated enough post impact to make PV5 a reality…except for an old rat! It feels like this little part of the fleur-de-lis.

Thanks IOZ…glad you liked it. Been stewing over another one, but it would call for superimposing an image over a picture grab which would be a little involved for me, but I am going to play around with it to see what I can do.

On a side note: Mall Rat is on the warpath this morning!!! Stay clear if you know what’s good for you. Never seen her this pissed for ages.

Seems like last night she was watching “Brothers and Sisters” on television and was waiting for some character named “Brody” to say something, that according to Mall Rat, that she’s been waiting for weeks to hear. Now just when he was supposed to say whatever it was a TV interruption…News Flash…OBL Dead! Cut to the President’s speech.

She is really fuming…she never did get to hear what Brody had to say. She said “why and the hell does Obama have to come on TV to tell us that…they could have just put up some banner headline at the bottom of the screen”

RR, here’s a question- What shape would clubhead speed be if we could see it? What would it look like?

Bom: Never been asked that before, or have I even considered it…but a fascinating question.

Do you mean what sort of vapor trail picture would be painted by the clubhead within space at different parts of the path of motion?

Just woke up, but my first thought is somewhat like doing “hand shadow puppets” on a wall would reveal the different shapes but the shadow would need some sort of elongated vapor trail per pose to depict the essence of travel over time.

Not trying to threadjack/sidetrack this line of thought( clubhead speed shape). Just a fun brief interlude.

Shape of clubhead speed. To me it brings to mind the different graphs ( shapes) you get when you plot
1 distance
2 velocity
3 acceleration
of a moving object. I’m many years past my last calculus class, but it can tell us the about the relationship of these three…derivatives and integrals. Two objects can have the same velocity, but different accelerations, so their graphs would be different, possibly wildly different. So golfers with the same clubhead speed at impact, may have very different acceleration graphs.

On the other hand, Lag’s Holy Grail…maintenance of shaft flex, may be the only picture we need.

Boy…ain’t that the truth. Actually got an audience today watching and listening to some real solid compression. Was just nutting my fairway woods with a sound that was pure gold. I don’t know if I was actually doing so, but I think I was really holding the shaft pressure WAY PAST P4- at least that was my intention. It was truly a great feel and sound, and you could have put a bushel basket out there and the balls would have finished real close, or in it. Nothing at all goes left unless I lose that pressure and marginally let the pressure get away.

It feels like low velocity, and although the acceleration part post impact to me feels slower than what I would expect, there is a heaviness, or denseness, or intensity, or purpose about it in feel that is actually pretty amazing…but it’s very hard to describe.

Bom: Still thinking…Rome wasn’t built in a day. I had some initial ideas about it while riding the tractor tonight…me and the tractor are best buddies and is where I get lost in thoughts driving around the back 40. :sunglasses:

Here’s kind of what I’m thinking, or leaning toward. It’s like those space-time grids that are curvilinear ( there’s that word you like). It would be similar to this.

One could use this type of scheme probably pretty easily. The arc itself could be narrower in places and wider in places, and the size of the grids within the structure itself could also vary from larger to smaller within the arc depending on the speed of things. Overall it would look like ribbon candy with some twists and turns but with a grid inside it that would give an impression of things stretching, pulling in or out, contracting, etc.

I have some conceptions in my head on how I would portray that, but that would take some serious computer graphic skills which are way beyond my reach.

Now if IOZ was sitting next to me it would be easy: Hey IOZ, put this there…now turn this sideways…let’s stretch it a little here…no, let’s get the grid smaller at this exact spot. I think it’s real doable but Anthony Ravielli I am not :laughing:

Great stuff, RR, I like where you’re going with that. I had a feeling that question would get well rattled around the maze and the ol’ wheel.
My thinking on it is that by getting a clear picture of what good speed would look like, then that would translate into the formation of the instinctive motion that would create it. Kind of like how you write a letter by seeing the shape of the letter. One of the problems with using the ball flight as the shape, is that it tends to make people try to create that trajectory, which is what most people do. That in itself is a telling thing.
There are definitely aspects of what clubhead speed does that get overlooked. One of my difficulties with the holding the flex image is that if it’s seen in purely linear terms then it can miss some important aspects of the acceleration.
I think there’s a lot in getting to the bottom of this.

The roosters are out in full bloom…no problems so far.

Was on the 60 inch zero-turn mower today at full throttle on wet grass and out pops two baby rabbits from under a pine tree.

Talk about opposing forces…slammed one handle one way, and the opposite handle the other and missed them, but not by much. The wet grass made the mower spin out a little, but rat instincts took over and saved the day for those two babies.

For those that haven’t driven a tractor the amount of torque and power within those contraptions is amazing…loads of fun.
We have a few tractors: a Kabota with a small ball picker for grass cutting, the Ford for ball picking, 2 John Deere’s, a Russian Belrus…and the beast, a 65 hp Massey-Ferguson.

Going to get up some more pictures after I clean the place up a little :laughing:

How old is that tractor?

Not exactly sure. It’s a Ford Model 3910 which was produced between 1983 and 1989?

We’ve had it about 10 years or so. We have a full time mechanic who, in lieu of rent on a property on an adjacent parcel, maintains all of our equipment. I can ask him if you need something real specific regarding the year.

I just drive the things…drive them into the ground and he fixes them :laughing:

One of our John Deere’s is a Model 730 built in 1950 I think, and the Massey is a 4 cylinder diesel made in 1960…but it is a beast.

If you ever need your deck relocated, or house for that matter, let me know…the Massey will have both moved in about 3 minutes. :laughing:
