Hi crr, I am not looking into buying this one. That is, I’m not allowed to have any more clubs in the house…
Please go ahead and bid on it if you want it. I just couldn’t find the ebay alerts thread so I thought I’d post here for whoever is interested…
I hope you win this!
Laminated woods are made of lots of thin layers of wood that are glued together. You can see the edges of each layer exposed here on the top of the head due to the round shape of the head.
You can see that pattern also on the neck and around the insert.
Real persimmons only show the grain of the wood, which is more subtle.
Truly rediculous how cheap things are on the bay. Bought myself a nice little birthday package today. It’s a 25 piece set with 6 persimmons including a prestine mac m85 driver, a mac 693 2 wood, and a set of 71 Haig Ultras 2-sw in stiff flex. As an awesome bonus, there are leather headcovers from Lincoln Park GC (as mentioned in ABS) and Lake Chabot, another historic bay area course, all in a vintage staff bag with a 1987 Olympic Club padded bag strap.
I took this lot for $133 + $50 shipping and would have considered paying that much for the M85 driver alone as I’ve been playing matching m85 irons for a while now.
I binked off a great set of 90’ hogan grinds for about $70. Seller said they were in very good condition, but in actuality it seems like like they’ve never been hit. Ridiculously cheap. They seem a bit more demanding than the '98 apexes that I’ve been playing, but they’re very rewarding as well.
I’m still looking for a nice set of persimmons. I have a few refinished laminated speed slots that are fun to play, and a director 4-wood.
