Cheers LCDV,
Have sent him a PM.
Though I think the Chinese will be disappointed.

NRG,
You probably already know this but hereās some more info on soleplates:
Usually they didnāt use brass for driver soleplates (to keep the weight down a bit). 2-5 wood were brass. Iām not sure what they used for drivers though.
IoZ
Cheers IoZ,
You are right, the 3 wood plate that i took off my Titleist 3 wood was 2.5mm brass and 51gms before I filed the name off it. The plate on my Mizuno Driver is Aluminiun (I think) and only 13gms, quite difference. I dare say a 5 wood plate will be thicker brass and a bit heavier than a 3 wood plate.
Unfortunately Persimmonpal only has inserts, not soleplates.
Does anyone know if you pay import tax on all parcels delivered from the US to the UK?? Or is it waived on small parcels?
On the clubs I had delivered a while back, I had to pay £23 tax on each box, which will make getting inserts a no goer.
Cheers.
Here tisā¦
Went with a deep red mahogany
Sits a shade open and feels nice in terms of SW
As you can tell I was going for function on this first one and will do a better job next timeā¦Havenāt hit it yet but canāt waitā¦
Looks great Mashie, let us know how you hit it! I like that color too.
NRG, over here we have a system where you only pay tax if the value of the item plus the shipping costs exceed a certain number. (50 Euro I think). Might be different in the UK, so please check first
Nicely done Mashie!
IoZ, apparently the limit for import duty to the UK is £18.
Just finished this one today.
Guys thanks for the complimentsā¦
IOZ/NRG,
How do you stain your clubs? Do you pull off the plates and tape the faces first? Or just use a very small paintbrush?
NRG nice job and really like the whipping
Also, I got chance to hit the club yesterday on the rangeā¦The club feels great and has a SW of E0 with a lie of 48 degreesā¦Iāve hit many woods before but never one with such a flat lie and weapon-like feelā¦What I noticed right way, surprisingly, was how solid each shot felt even if the ball flight wasnāt perfectā¦My guess is that the tip of shaft is now located nearer the center of the club and helps with this solid feel. 2nd, this flatness forces you to respect P3 to P4 meaning you canāt come in steeply @ P3 or the shot is offā¦3rd, Like Lag says, the flatter lie really engages my pivot and forces me to give this club everything Iāve got physicallyā¦.4th, the slightly open face also forces me to fire hard with Mod 1/Mod2 in order to square it upā¦Maybe this is the ultimate range club meaning flat, heavy, stiff and openā¦If you can square this club up, youāre on the right trackā¦I say range club because I might need to make another one that is more square for the courseā¦
Mashie,
Generally I donāt remove the soleplates or inserts, though that is possible if you get the right size screwdriver and heat up the tip to melt the epoxy that the screws are bedded in.
If I am staining the club, I use a Wood Dye and just wipe it onto the wood with a cloth. It only requires 1 coat, dries really quickly and evenly without any streaks of stickyness, which can be a pain with some stains I have tried. When staining, I try to match up the original colour of the wood.
If the original club is a dark colour, then I just spray it black (cause as you know, itās practically impossible to remove the old stain from within the wood grain). This means applying masking tape to the face and soleplate and cutting around the joint with a knife. It requires 2 or 3 coats with a light wire wool inbetween coats.
Took delivery of a Jimmy Demaret persimmon that I bought from NRG yesterday and it looks a real beuaty! had about 5 hits with it at the range - caught 2 properly and now understand what all the persimmon fuss has been about! Canāt wait to get properly stuck in on the course. Plus, I donāt know whether itās psychological or not but knowing that this has been reshafted, refinished etc. by NRG as opposed to having been bought at a golf shop from a silly salesman makes me feel a lot better about hitting it.
Question for you NRG - in order to achieve the D6 swingweight, did you have to add any weight to the clubhead (like tungsten powder), i.e.e what is your preferred technique?
Really chuffed with the driver though!
JC
James,
Once the neck has been reshaped, I remove the sole plate and drill a hole behind the sweetspot and fill it up with tungsten mixed with epoxy or add some tungsten powder down the tip. If i need to add a`lot of weight i will do a combination of both those things doing the tip weighting second as a fine tuning.
Glad you like it, you wonāt find another one with a black mark like that.
NRG
I actually drilled a hole into the body of a persimmon right behind the sweet spot and pured some epoxy in. I havent played with this one because of the winter but a thought pop into my head that the weight on the back of the body may be too high and make the center of gravity too high thus affecting the launch angle. I want to carry this drive next month to SoCal and would to hate to hit worm burners of the tee.
Do you think my worries are valid??
I suppose so Macs, it depends on how much weight you have added and how high up it is.
I like this ideaā¦Iām sure itās been asked before can you get a Titanium driver ā¦bent to the flat lie angleā¦that the persimmon woods were of the old daysā¦
Titleist, there is some info here on how it can be done. If anyone wants me to do one, drop me a PM.
Have flattened my first Hickory as well.
wow, great stuff NRG⦠your truly honing your skills.
That hickory shafted club looks pretty cool NRG.
Just as an asideā¦not saying weāre bending the rules but we might be approaching it. I got a Rules of Golf book as a stocking stuffer this holiday season and read that a clubās heel canāt extended out too far below the center of the shaft. In fact itās only .625 inches. So maybe we need to file down the heel as well on some of these projects.
It would be tricky to measure exactly how far the heel is from the centre of the shaft as it effectively becomes a blind bore. Canāt see how you could accurately project where the shaft would be to be. Where exactly do you measure to on the heel? Sometimes the heel is curved or has a rocker. It would be pretty simple though to file some off the heel before you refinish, if that needed to be done.
