Silly Grady, I held a seance where I summoned Ben Hogan and I strong armed him into revealing it is the LEFT pinkie and our galbladders that are the keys to golf
Enjoy Paul… ![]()

I like it, Diz, way to pound the inside arc.
Let’s go racin’ boys!

Confessions of a handle dragger
I went to the range one time this week. I was hitting drivers, and working on really loading into the right leg in transition and rotating level. I was hitting hooks, which didn’t surprise me since by loading into the right I had more time and space to release, and focusing on the level rotation causes earlier face closure. So I got the idea to bring my left arm across my chest sooner. The feeling was one of turning in front of the ball. Instead of directing my hands down the 4:30 line and trying to hold that line to anatomical limit and then cut left after contact. I felt like I was cutting left in front of or before the ball. Thinking in terms of the sagittal plane, it felt like I was crossing that plane over my right leg instead of my left leg. The shots were very different in look and feel-a very flat trajectory that drew a few feet. After doing that four times I pulled out the 2 iron with my last ball and hit the same shot. I hope I can recreate these intentions and feelings next time I get out!
First post, been doing abs for a few months, on mod 2, but just wanted to add to this with a feel that I have been having success with lately. Lately I feel like I am consciously adding left wrist c0ck WELL into the downswing, and its really resulted in some awesome shots. I feel like my Mod 1 has gotten strong enough where I can really feel forearm rotation deep into the downswing and the left wrist can feel cupped/c0cked late without having to worry about how to get it all back on the ball. It’s resulted in some great shots.
Funny Diz and I touched base after both having a lunch range session and we hit upon the exact same thing-bending the hand path left. In ABS terms, we are referring to orbit pull. I had mentioned the notion of the left arm passing in front of the ball recently, and it has taken me a while to figure out exactly how to do it.
The first point is the axis of rotation is the right leg, not the left. The slot happens and then you roll your left arm across your chest as your engage your forearm rotation.
You have the sensation your hands are going on a 45 degree angle left and your right shoulder is going on a 45 angle right, and you look up and the ball is going straight at the target trying to draw.

go to 1:10 or so.
I grabbed today just two videos DTL and two from the front with my Iphone and by accident one of the DTL and FO vids
have the same positions:

Interesting how it looks from 2 different dimensions at the same time-frame…

Phil Rodgers had that great comment about when the toe closes the club head gets lower into terra firma absent any forces.
Which fits in nicely with this:

If we think of releasing the toe instinct says our hands are going to raise higher than our address position was… because the club get longer.
Searching, searching…subcon is working on the solution…offline and in the background. I like what Jack Nicklaus said after having a bad round or range practice…along the lines that he would sit in his easy chair when he got home and think about what he wanted to do. He didn’t realize it, most likely, but he was meditating. Actively engaging the subcon, or better put, allowing it to boot up and function in off-peak hours, does wonders. Do less, more will come.
Yeah Johnny Miller talked about that. He thought it much more productive to visualize hitting shots than actually going to the range and hitting balls. There is much truth in that. I know once I hit the perfect shot on the range…I quit and think about it after I leave the range.
I pulled the two practice swings from the most recent swing posting I made. I thing they are quite interesting to watch. You can really see the 45 here, with the left going down a 45 degree angle left of me, and the right working on a 45 degree angle right of me. It is also interesting that I have the shaft pointing at the ball for a good part of the DS, which is well outside where my club reaches low point. The post impact to finish is pure Hogan. So why can’t I do that at speed? ![]()

So why can’t I do that at speed? …yet
( I bet you will )
Just thinking out loud have you tried bending your knees more and being lower through the shot? Try getting deeper into your right leg in transition and then maintain this depth as you turn. The taller I stand, the more I throw my hands and lose the tight handpath because I feel I have to release more to reach my low point.
I’ve also found it allows me to turn into my left side sooner because I reach the elbow plane sooner in the downswing.
A simple drill that I find effective. If nothing else it gets me closer to the ball, which is a challenge for me at 6’4’. I feel so crowded when I get close, but it is hard to be packed in when you are far away. ![]()

Grady, I showed you this…
Your practice swings are on the hip-slot and your real swing is on the mid-torso slot…

I don´t think it is wrong to swing on the mid-torso slot. I think it is somehow given
how your body and arms want to release the club and in what “slot”!
I see it more like a spectrum which slot you use and you could still incorporate your
intentions into the mid-torso slot.
I don´t know how a good ABS hand action would look from FO in the impact arena,
but I compared a famous Golfer with my Hand action.
Thru a good tip from a friendly Forum Member I traced the butt end of the club and
PP3 and voila the trace line of PP3 is quite level thru the impact arena.
Not exactly the same frames and after impact there is a frame from my swing missing…

Very interesting that he felt PP3 “just forward” thru the strike:

Ben’s waggle near 1:15 suggests a fulcrum, or pivot point, near the overlap of his left index finger and right hand small finger so that the butt of the club orbits the fulcrum, moving into the region between the fulcrum and closer to his body while pp3 simultaneously orbits around the fulcrum and further from his body. Though the exact path of this alleged fulcrum is not easily determined between the red and green traces, Ben’s waggle suggests he intends to use that fulcrum in the full swing when we believe his statement in Five Lessons that his waggle is important to him in previewing his actual swing. The red and green traces help with exploring Ben’s coordination of his hand action with both his lower body pivot and his upper body pivot to obtain his intended club head path with power and precision through the ball.
