I know most of you know this, but just in case… the best way to win an ebay auction is by bidding in the last few minutes. figure out what’s the most you want to bid on an item, and enter that number in the last minute of the auction. don’t bid on an item before then, not even if a bid hasn’t been placed yet. add it to your watch it now, and wait until the auction is about to end.
I did spot these, and would have asked the question if these laminates where nice golf clubs, as they look fantastic, but the seller doesn’t ship to Australia.
It’s a big ask, but is anyone in US/Canada willing to be the buyer, then ship it on to Aus for me? Is this woods set worth going to that extra effort/cost for?
By the way, if you ever want a laugh, go to Balmain golf in Sydney and talk persimmon/blades with the owner. I went there as I heard they had a good 2nd hand range, which I assumed might include some persimmon/blades. When I asked if they had lefty persimmons, he said if he did I could take it for nothing, as it will otherwise sit in his store for years, but he had nothing. I got an absolute earful about why I was a complete tool for thinking about persimmon rather than just embracing new technology. It took me around 30 minutes to get him to stop telling me how bad persimmon is compared with titanium. The only item of interest was a steel shafted (Rifle 5.5) Maxfli Revolution 1 iron, brand new, beautiful forged iron, though not a blade. His comment “$30, you can get buried with it. If you do, ask god how to hit the damn thing.”
Obviously a great golfer himself…
When I went to one of the shops at Bundall, on the Gold Coast asking for a persimmon driver the (not so young) 25 year old guy kept saying “we only have second hand PRO SIMMON irons but not woods”. I said that I wanted PERSIMMON made, like real wood not titanium driver and 3 wood and he just didn’t even know what I was talking about. I left after 10 seconds.
Just made a quick jump on these for 25 bucks (Turf Rider woods) w/o a lot of info. Are they good, bad, or indifferent?
Flop
Hey Flop
Sorry to say but they look like Laminate (the conetric symmetrical grain on the top). I have bought 4 different wood sets so far and three of them are laminates and the fourth is some kind of plastic (Araldite bla bla). I am really depressed that so far have no ral persimmon wood.
Macs
Think you are all too right. Some circles bode well, these not so well. This usually happens when my itchy fingers get ahead of my tendency to ignore the too good to be true brain flags. Oh well, think I’ll just throw a couple of pounds of lead on the back them, and fire away.
Thanks
Flop
For the R shaft lovers… though these might be pretty enough for alteration…
There is a Jim Kaplan catalogue of Mac clubs currently on sale at ebay. This is the 1st edition which goes upto about 1970 I think. The 2nd edition goes upto about 2000 I think but is really difficult to get.
Two left handed sets with regular shafts, which I don’t think will be stiff enough for my swing eventually, so factor in a re-shaft.
Titleist Tour Model 3-9 iron + $60 postage to Aus:

Honma 717 + $30 postage:

The price is probably fine after re-shafts for the Titleist, a little over budget on the Honmas after a re-shaft.
Opinions on these clubs?
Somehow stumbled onto Moe Norman story on ebay?

Sad Day…
I got outbid on these (hopefully by someone in our forum).
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … K:MEWAX:IT
I had the sole bid at $49.95 with a max of $90.00, and someone with 7,493 purchases came in and won these babies for $91.00.
Is the day of the deal on sweet clubs over in ebay?
Papi, you should have punched in $90.11 with like 15secs to go. I bet you would have got them.
I recently bid $65.11 on a set of blades with 20secs to go and won them by 11c (the next higgest bid ended up being $65 even).
I wish i could have, i got out bid in with like 2 secs to go. maybe i should have bid more than 90.00, but I thought my bid was already too high.
how much would you have paid for these clubs?
2secs, that’s too bad.
I’m new to this whole vintage club thing but being from Australia (where we’e not able to buy this stuff locally too often) probably $120 + postage.
I’ve recently seen sets go for $25 in the US that I would have happily paid $80 or $90 for but it’s the postage that kills us downunder.
With ebay, if my max is $100 then I usually bid $100.17 in the hope that I can beat any other bidders who als max out at $100.
Did you buy 'em for me papi? Gee thanks. I’ll PM you my mailing address.
Sorry didn’t notice your message earlier, I don’t read this thread anymore remember.
Does anyone know anything about MacGregor Great Scot MP8 and MS8 wedges? What year are the from?
cgi.ebay.com/Wilson-Staff-1969-D … 19b8167c5d
someone should buy these… pay up to $100
The 69 Bullet backs are probably the purest and cleanest looking Dyna… already have stiff shafts… and nice grips…
so just bend them and go…
no brainer here…
I already have a set or I would be all over these…
Thanks for the tip Lag - I’m going to bid.
Cheers, Arnie
Stiff Shafts. Great price even at the ‘buy it now’ level. Nice starter kit for playing and/or refinishing…
