I hit some balls with the golden pathway and thought I was much better than the initial video showed. I couldn’t post videos. I have been playing well but now seeing video a long way to go which is good.
First video, then trying to have club 430 and pivot driven. Tried everything; mod 3 swings, more right wrist curl which builds popeye arms, keeping right arm bent, and pulling left shoulder. Got better 2nd pic then I included early abs pic.
Thanks John. I’m doing the drills. Funny thing the other day my wife says to me your forearms are getting HUGE. lol. I need to build up my biceps and shoulders. Forearm is almost bigger than my biceps.
Ok so after taking a couple weeks off and posting some high scores. I got thru a match play first round with my D game. Short game saved me. I literally couldn’t hit a fairway or keep it on the course. Been drilling hard.
I drilled some more and found this nugget for me. There is the motorcycle drill that when I followed GG was the rage. I did this stuff to thinking if I closed clubface and rotated open would be great. Think DJ wrist position. or this video.
I’m feeling motorcycle move in the opposite direction with a lateral move and trip. I did it pitching and keeps me back behind the ball and gets the club behind me for forearm smash. Also gets my right elbow closer to my belly button and obviously opens up the face max. All great ABS things. Great contact and straight as I can point it. Feels great too.
I then hit balls on the range today after playing and I felt like I FOUND it for me. This note is a reminder for myself of today pitching at Glendale and in the range of the feeling. Going to practice it with my short club. I had lost it then found it today as it slipped down in my bag towards bottom out of sight. I was even doing some chip drivers too. Magic trick really but for me motorcycle move it KEY. Need to get some video for review from the coaches here.
Nothing wrong with having a backup move for the course when you play.
But to stay on point here on the Hogan thread… we want to close the clubface with level torso/shoulder rotation. Cupped left wrist at P3 and open face (skyward) after tripping the shaft …so we are deep on the 4:30 line. From there we feel the push off the right foot, locked up right elbow and hard explosion into finish or ABS modified Module 3.
If you still feel you can’t get the clubface closed at impact, entertain the push block from the back ball position. Trevino of course played like this and I suspect Hogan played a lot of shots like this also.
The problem with the shut face/arched wrist thing is that it inhibits pivot rotation and promotes right elbow straightening through the strike. Not Hogan protocols by any means.
John I fully agree. I think you misunderstood my lengthy and confusing post. This video is the OPPOSITE of what I’m doing. I’m feeling curled right wrist which is opening the club skyward big time and getting it deep on the 430 line. From there I’m using forearm rotation and pivot rotation. Not sure how flat will see with video. Bottom line for me is thinking motorcycle move with right wrist opens clubface and from there it feels as if ball sticks to clubface, has more pop behind it and goes straight. I did goto open Trevino move to access 430 easier in desperation. I played all last year like this but this year I’m way more square.
I just feel this move gets club more on 430 then a ton of better things happen for me. You talk about the FLAT right wrist. For me it goes hand and hand with tripping the shaft.
Cupped left wrist doesn’t work for me being a righty. After hitting balls even 40 Yard pitches I can feel the popeye forearms in my right arm getting a workout.
Practiced the magic trick yesterday and squeezed feet so hard I got a blister in my right ball of foot. Hit a couple hundred balls. anyone else get this? NRG?
Ok I just went thru some big golf weeks and things didn’t go as planned but back drilling. I got away from mod 4 or golden pathway and mod 1 and mod 3 or explosion to the finish. Game is humbling. I got away from just drilling to play golf and get ready for tournaments and played 6 of 7 days couple weeks ago which is not the norm.
After doing mod 4 and seeing my hands were not at right hip pocket. I’m back to mod 1. Just did 300 (L, R, both hands) and discovered that i need to start from 6 o’clock line (very closed) and for me it’s not so much forearm rotation but my left shoulder pulling the assembly line with some forearm rotation sprinkled on top. Squeeze and then hitting the bag (ball) with my dantien or stomach. Great feels.
Mod 3 and explosion to the finish has always been about my left shoulder leading and hearing the swish after impact and then to PV5. Form some reason ETF was easier for me to do. I’m feeling squeeze on board and that allows me to pull hard with left shoulder (lightbulb). Who needs a gym after doing 60 of these. Couldn’t do 100 or each no way.
Mod 3 is now better since I figured it out with help. I get my hands in tighter and drop the club into impact then rip it hard left with my left shoulder.
This might not help anyone else but it’s my notes/journey/lightbulbs.

Didn’t have time for mod2 after lots of mod4. I noticed mod 4 if i’m going to hit from right hip pocket you need left shoulder moving to get any kind of hit. Drilling leads to feels. You can’t think this stuff.
Today went back to strong/strong on grip. For me having right hand strong puts my right elbow more forward. I used to be like that but got away. Immediately more comfortable.
Might be less winding of forearm in the right with strong right grip but for me the ball likes it better. I was thinking today that Jack putted like that a bit with his piston style putting.
Thanks John. What i noticed today after doing the 30 minute Hogan workout is that the explosion to the finish is difficult to do with a strong right hand grip. I think my grip changed from this drill but i did so many of them that i was ok till i wasn’t if that makes sense. Once i stopped drilling A LOT i lost the feel and had some issues. It’s still feels way more natural for me right hand strong but haven’t played again. The real test is under the gun but I’m drilling with the strong grip now (caveman strong). Seems harder to post impact though compared to right hand grip more like yours in the ETTF video. I feel like I can access the 430, get right elbow bent, square the clubface, get the club more behind me and swing more under if that makes sense.
I also went strong, strong today putting with my flat putter and it feels pretty good too. Nicklaus like motion to me with strong right hand and elbow tucked. I square it nicely.
