Played early morning yesterday and just did not have it. Hit the bag about 30 reps (L, R, both hands) and 10 balls before ok. I just didn’t have it all day but most misses right except 3 left trying to hit draws. I felt like my tempo was off although hitting I find I rely less on relaxing going to the course (playing classical music), breathing, etc. @lagpressure Does tempo and rhythm matter as much for hitters? Anyone have any ideas. I also did not do very many drills this week and find that if I don’t keep up with drills this can happen…
3 GIRs on the front and zero on the back. I guess that is golf. Earlier in the week I hit it so good and went to range instead of drill work.
Hard to say much without seeing what is going on. First rule though is to play golf when playing golf. As Snead said, “Dance with the gal yer brought”. I’ve gone out on the course hitting it poorly (technically) but managed to score decently because I am going to take that game and play away from trouble and just make it work by being aware of my potential or most likely miss hits. All you need to play decent is some kind of repeating shot pattern. I don’t slice the ball, but if that is what I had that day, I would aim left and play it all day. Off the tee I would tee the ball really low …to keep the ball down and minimize the slice time in the air.
If I were pulling the ball hard… I would aim way right and take less club… because pulling the ball delofts the club. So I might actually end of with some decent results with a bad golf swing and ball flight.
Just examples of playing vs worrying about my golf swing on the course.
Now if I have a good understanding of Module 8 and 9.. dealing with ball position and draw and fading protocols, I might be able to fix some of this on the golf course… but you have to know what you are doing.
That being said, if I strike the ball poorly, I go right back to drills.. and not hitting balls.
- Am I on the 4:30 line
2. Do I feel my cohesive body tensions?
3. Am accelerating the club through the strike?
4. Is my right elbow straightening through the strike causing excessive clubface roll?
5. Can I take 5 divots in a row that all look the same? (Low point control?)
6. Does the club feel heavy and deliberate in my hands? (Module 5)
If I am really hitting the ball poorly, I will go right to ABS Module 4 and set up the camera per protocol and look at my swing plane from P3 to P4. Usually that will expose any major issues I am having.
thanks John. I will use this for sure as my go-to if things go sideways. ![]()
I went to the range today. Only 2nd time in a long time this year. I tried to go full on Hogan mods using the tabletop and trip. It was wild that I was hitting my 1950s dynapower 1 iron so great. It’s heavy with extra lead tape and butter knife. Pure! Then I take out my 14.8 ounce persimmon which is small compared to my PXG toaster. I pure that pulling it what seems way inside and then feeling the trip move and flattening my right wrist. This took some conscious thought but hitting persimmon unreal like the butter knife. Meanwhile USGA Junior am qualifying is going on and I am watching good Juniors just side bending and flyswatting for the most part. I can see it better now with the naked eye. They are pounding it for sure but this old little tight course with some wind I don’t think they went low but will look. There was one premier group with ASU, BYU, etc recruits and I saw one kid hit one in that group Way right but open and it was downwind. I wish these kids would hit that persimmon and butter knife.
I then pull out my modern 3 wood which is pretty light and can’t trip as well without the weight. My PXG has lead tape but it’s not almost 15 ounces and hit that worse. I will be adding weight to my gamers but very encouraging with the old gear. 2 tournaments this week so don’t think can go full Hogan but nice. I am hitting it ok.
tournaments went ok. won a closest to pin in a hurricane…Better than pre abs. Tournaments are hard and wish i had as many reps as @lagpressure and @Sawfeat . For sure before ABS i am not shooting low 80s on a course i had never seen before.
I just got my metal spikes and felt great yesterday. Played early with some decent players. One guy shot 34. I wasnt far behind. I was surprised in early wetness they didnt see my nails. It was obvious to me on the greens as they looked aerated with the holes. Stayed away from cement although that is the sound i miss the most!
Two keys to good golf here…
