One of my better juniors played an important event this past weekend and while on the course she shot a 40 on the front 9 well over her normal standards. Her father shot me a text and said Ccoach I know you are on vacation but can you share something that will help my daughter refocus on the back 9.
I told him tell her to play the next 5 holes 4:30 to PV5 to gain control of the strike and put the ball back into her own hand. About 3 hours later he texted me and said Thanks coach she shot a 31 on the back and won the tournament by 2 strokes.
I hope this can help to encourage someone even if it’s just one person that when things seem bad refocus on the work that you have done and get the ball back in your hand where you are controlling the strike and spin. And 4:30 to PV5 is one of the best ways to make that happen.
It’s the second drill of the day in my golf academy. We start first with little chip shots to wake up the hands then we go straight to 4:30 to PV5s with a heavy focus on post impact conditions.
I’m so proud of the father/mother/daughter team that persevered with that 40 in a huge event for the state and as a golf performance coach it validates the core beliefs that flat out work. We have played entire rounds with a compact 4:30 to PV5 swing and I share with them that this is one of the best get me back into the clubhouse swings they will ever have.
Cheers
