Where do I hit the persimmon?

I haven’t been playing persimmon seriously all that long. With my titanium I usually try to make impact above center and slightly toe side for a low spin draw. Where should I exactly be trying to hit the persimmon? I noted that I am instinctively hit persimmon in my usual spot and sometimes miss the narrow part of the insert towards top ( notes some wear on the wood grain) - I wish the wider part of the insert was on top of face sometimes. What is the correct spot ? Is it as simple as right between the screws in middle? Where do you all hit it mostly? Thanks :+1:

How does it feel when you hit it? And how does it fly? If it feels solid and flies well you’re golden.

Of course, generally the ideal spot is close to center, but minor variation is fine any which way. Normally with a persimmon, shots outside of the insert will feel pretty awful.

And don’t feel bad if you don’t like a club. I love some persimmons and hate others. You gotta find one that speaks to you.

Agreed… this is spot on….

Thanks for this advice. Seems like I was overthinking it. Feel is generally great where I hit it and flies nice and high. If I’m slightly off and catch timber I can always tell. If I miss high towards crown the ball takes off way too high and lands short. Seems obvious now but this is the feedback I probably need to really dial in that perfect strike pattern. With the titanium I use in tournament play(400cc) these shots would feel and fly exactly the same and I am none the wiser.

Middle ground is the face place to be, on the screws. Haven’t done persimmons in a spell but plan on playing several rounds this summer- loads of fun.

I’m thinking most around these parts only miss the screws if they want to.

The old saying hit it on the screws is actually spot on. Thats where you will get the best contact and consistent flights. You will immediately if you miss the screws with persimmon because the gear effect is nothing like a titanium driver. Toe shots will gear back right to left and heel shots will gear left to right. Some really good players in the past have actually used the gear effect to their advantage. I agree with the above comment also don’t worry if you don’t like the one you have or love the one you have because you can have a love/hate relationship with some persimmons. I love my Toney Penna woods all the time whereas my Hogan Speed Slot I have a love hate relationship with. I will add I love all of my Louisville persimmon woods they are made so damn well it’s amazing.
