Weight distribution in vintage blades

I remember this being discussed in a thread but can’t find it.

What Is the thought process between these two types of weight distribution.

The M85 has the mass right behind the sweet spot obviously. What is the thought process with the other thinner blade?

My understanding is that it has to do with trajectory control. A higher CG makes it easier to flight lower.

Balata balls would sure spin more back in the day than the modern ball. It took skill to keep them low, especially when hitting into a wind.
