Just re posting these insights from Ben Hogan
Thanks for posting Lag. I have 13 years remaining before I reach 72. This post gives me inspiration.
There is some gems in the comments especiaally - I would roll the face as open and fast as i can!
What do you think he meant by “rotate the bat as fast as possible”?
So many different interpations on this one
My take is:
- hold a pen in your left hand with the wrist bent back ‘a-la hogans secret’, pen hozizontal to the ground.
- now keep the pen horizontal to the ground and rotate it counter clockwise.
You should get the left bend ‘down and back’ look.
Hogan2.jpg is a for me really. He starts takeaway with a push from left arm. That gives us a good clue to his intentions, no? It might even suggest he also PULLED with left arm to start downswing since it is the arm he has already consciously activated going back. So left arm until P3 and then an added hard RH hit with pivot?
I thought this was a great clip- I’ve seen some photos of it but not the full thing. Carl Welty has some gold on his channel.
This really shows clearly his intentions through impact like I’ve not seen before…

Pressure left to avoid left.
The heavy persimmon is a factor also in the beauty of the transition and it’s evolution. Not something we see in the modern players. There are a few who seek “that look” but it’s void of the proper intentions… or better put, the reason for actually doing it.
Hey guys,
in this blog i found something quite intresting written about Hogans Waggle - something i havent read before. I have been absent for quite a bit on this forum, so maybe this has been mentioned here in the past- but if not, check it out!
A rare interview with Ben Hogan about his life posted over on Ralph’s Gotham Blog
Great link… cheers.
Do you think Hogan would have greatly benefited from todays high speed video and Trackman like technology along with “modern” swing theory and have become even better than he was OR was he who he was from lack of that kind of feedback?
I sometimes wonder if this modern swing stuff of line drawing, magazine ‘tips’ from top 100 teachers, wide range of training aids/books available on the net, launch monitor spin/angle rates, etc etc are actually a good reason why average handicaps aren’t dropping. The classic days of body feel, ball flight and wins are just gone.
Surely high speed video is a huge benefit? To see if what you feel you are really doing?
Did any of the classic bests revamp their swings three times because some slick tongue intellects were able to convince them they were wrong?
Havent seen this footage before - at the end he is going to hit a couple and does a “slowmotion” swing:

Look at Ben Hogan, so at ease and relaxed. He’s already realized he’s achieved total consciousness in the next life.
With The Masters spirit in the air, I’d like to share this well done and inspiring homage to Hogan, in case you haven’t seen it. One of best vid’s on youtube imo:

This video I made ages ago has a bunch of great not that many seen Hogan swings and a great song to match
A golfswing is unnatural (says Hogan):

It depends… you sure better understand what you are seeing and to know what to work on and what to leave alone.
Most good players I know don’t like looking at their swings very often, because it is not consistent with what they are imaging in their own consciousness.
Two, this video is just fantastic. I was going to ask this question last night, but wanted to review the vid a few more times. The swings are slowed down just enough that I think I’ve noticed something. Please don’t think I’m crazy, but does it appear that he kind of captures the ball and then slings it? Like capture/sling, really fast? Like a Jai-lai (sic) player might do.
Do you mean post impact acceleration being really noticeable?..like he steps into another gear after impact
