Love the Day Tripper reference!
Yeah, it took me soooo long, to find out.. but I found out!
I was trying to get as flat as I could here, literally felt like I was flopping it around my ankles.
Of course, going as flat as I could resulted in the opposite of tripping the shaft. This is going to be a battle this summer, I may have an air shot on the range working on this stuff, but can’t wait for when I get it right ![]()
Hogan Modules…Attempting to keep my backswing as flat as I can, and trip the shaft, and hit the ball.
It’s hard, that’s why there’s drills.
Most of my misses were chunky, probably because I haven’t learned how to pivot aggressively after tripping the shaft. New territory for me.
There were some thin shots too, and even some well struck shots, lol.
More drilling, more work, enjoy the process ![]()
Progress!
Once you get it. there is no going back.. you’ll love it…
Back at it after a week or two of no golf.
That’s inspiring Paul!
Thanks for posting.
Curious what sensations you are feeling in your body as your swing goes down the Hogan Module path?
Love where you are at the top and on the 4:30 line.
A quick bucket at the range yesterday.
My swing thoughts were to swing flat and hinge my wrists more on the backswing. I’ve always been firm with my wrists and probably downcocked to some degree on the downswing.
In these swings, even though it doesn’t look like it, I felt very loose and flippy in my wrists on my backswing.
My forearms are getting more comfortable rotating the club open while keeping my left wrist slightly cupped. This is quite natural for me now.
What isn’t natural is tripping the shaft. I wasn’t focused on that here, and the module work hasn’t crept into ‘unconscious’ swing yet. A lot of module work needed in that department.
I feel like my right arm is bent and frozen to my side through to P4, although it clearly extends and throws too much for my liking. I think this will get better as I get better in transition.
My clubhead is looking and feeling more stable through impact, not quite as much right hand throw as there used to be.
Always working on post impact pivot, orbit pull, etc, all that good stuff, Get a little more zip on the ball and a ball flight with purpose.
Ok, tripping the shaft modules, here I come, time to get on it!
Really hit it well today on the range. So good, I almost got a goose in one…
I also focused on tripping the shaft while trying to hit a ball. When I’m only thinking about tripping the shaft (like in the video below), it sure shows the other parts of my swing that aren’t fully ingrained and natural yet.
Enjoy the process….
Absolutely bitchin Paul ! Looks great !1
I’ve been working on the Hogan Modules, “free ride down”, this past week. Just impact bag stuff, about 15 - 20 minutes each night while I’m waiting for the sprinkler to water my lawn.
Tonight I had a chance to hit a few balls at the range while trying to incorporate that feeling. When I got it right (or what felt right), man did that ball zing of the clubface. I swear I was hitting it a club longer without trying. I could literally hear the club head accelerating through and beyond impact, very cool!
I was definitely inconsistent with my striking at this point, but when I got it right….that feeling is addictive.
Keep drilling

Yes, this is where is starts…. I know the feeling. It’s completely other worldly… very addictive…yes. It really feels like and I believe this is also true, we are tapping into the feeling of greatness. This is what the truly great strikers did. It’s different, a different technique and it hasn’t been on the teaching menu until now.
I don’t think the legend or myth that “Hogan had a different sound” when he struck a golf ball is urban legend. I do believe it was a real observation. To be tapping into that is just so exciting!
I’ll have what you guys are having please!
I haven’t been to the range for a while, but I’ve been doing some impact bag at home, mostly “free ride down” module work in the Hogan modules.
Today I got to hit some balls to test its progress.
Woohoo, 2 days in a row at the range.
I was working on feeling the free ride down mostly, but the last 20 balls or so, I tried to incorporate tripping the shaft.
It’s minimal, but it’s there. I tend to lay the club off more when trying to tip the shaft. Just not completing the back swing I feel.
Just happy to hit a few solid ones at this point.
Love the process ![]()

Getting the shaft there at transition feels so different, but it allows us to strike so hard and level without any chance of OTT. This really eliminates the dreaded pull shot. Works so perfectly applying the ABS Module 9 draw shot protocols with no fear of hooking the ball either. This is a real gateway to masterful ball control.
Working on the Hogan Modules. Trying to trip the shaft and orbit pull into P4 is hard. I can do one or the other, but only occasionally both in the same swing.
Work it either side, then learn to tighten the screws on both sides. ![]()
Transition is getting better. I wasn’t concerned with the shots I was hitting, just focused on my transition and tripping the shaft. I felt like the club was wide open coming down, I fully expected to hit the ball way right, but most shots were pretty straight, or just a slight push.
Looks great… feels absolutely insane! It’s such a different process of swinging a golf club. When you do it… you think “this can’t be right”.. but then you look at it ..and the ball flight when you catch it correctly… it’s right!
