The Hickory Project

Lag,

Anything new to report?

Will be working on another two of the clubs this next week…

Lag–how’s the project going, have you had a chance at a test drive? Thought you might enjoy this from Elkington and Maves, if you haven’t seen it…

When I played at Royal Melbourne last week in the PGA Australia Centenary day they had a long drive hole with a hickory (15th on west course) and a nearest the pin on (5th hole west) with hickory clubs.

I have no idea if the clubs were decent or not…they didn’t look great especially the woods and were just someone’s they had put out on the tee to use…but was fun to give it a whack.
I hit the wooden hickory not bad… I knew I would have to wait as long as I could to rip into it…but still couldn’t wait long enough and just turned it over into a fairway bunker…probably got it out there 225 yards maybe !!!
Amazing thing was that bunker just isn’t in play whatsoever on that par 5 hole with a ‘new’ club

On the par 3 hole (playing 175 yards) I had already hit a 7 iron into about a foot away from the hole…so I then stepped up with the hickory iron (no idea what club or loft it was)…they had 2 right handed ones and a lefty one to choose from and hit a pretty good one right below the hole about 10 feet. Thing went high…but felt good and flew good

I really can’t remember hitting a hickory club before except in my grandma’s back yard when i was a young chap… cool stuff

I wasn’t sure where to post this but I figured this thread is prob appropriate after seeing Two’s post. Looks like they had a Hickory throwback at the Zurich Classic and I found some videos on youtube with pro’s hitting hickory.
