John Erickson this evening just released a YouTube video announcing availability of the Hogan Modules: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y0w8g5_aDc

I just signed up.

Even though I am a mid-handicapper and at age 66, and I probably always will be a mid-handicapper…

The continued improvement in my game and ballstriking from ABS (now 2 years in) is unmistakable.

I consider the Hogan Modules to be a good investment. I may never get to play at the level of all you great low handicap ABS students, but the pure pleasure of learning and improving, and knowing and seeing that my ball flight slowly but steadily has improved month after month since I started ABS… says that I better start now to see what I can learn at my age. After all, since I am in the autumn of my life, no time to wait!

Looking forward to it!

John,
I agree with you. I am a 57 year old mid handicapper. I started golf in my late 40s… I’m on Module 6 and super-slotting and I wished I did this when I first started, I think the Hogan Module will be a great investment and very interesting. It has to help… plus I feel that John is the greatest golf teacher alive and I want to support him…
Definitely looking forward to it.

The Hogan Modules are an uncompromising study of how Hogan approached the “hitting” methodology. Most everything you would be working on in the ABS Module program would be compatible. Mods 8 and 9 we just lifted and put into the Hogan Modules because there would be no changes at all.

So really the question is… "Was Hogan doing something specific within a hitting protocol that gave him an advantage in ball striking accuracy and dynamics? I would say absolutely YES! So it becomes a more disciplined approach and more “uncompromising”. However, I believe this also to be ultimately more rewarding… and I can speak with 100% confidence from my own personal interaction with it. I am a Hogan Module student also with the the goals in sight, very constant and clear.

That all being said, this is not for the faint of heart. It is not “easy”, but the tools and instruction are now here, and I believe the basic framework and methodology presented makes what was once unattainable due to lack or proper instruction, now attainable and absolutely beneficial for any level of golfer to undertake.

There was a great quote from Home Kelley that I believe resonates here:
“Complexity is far more simple and workable than mystery”

Don’t sell yourself short! I’m 74 years old. I’ll be 75 in June. I began playing at age 45. Gradually got my scores better. Did it mainly by practicing especially short game and wedges. I keep working on my golf. Last year I shot my lowest score for 9 holes. 2 under par 34. Of course a hole in one for an eagle helped a lot! But I had two birdies and two bogeys.I’m tweaking some things right now based on John E’s instruction.

The feeling of improvement is worth the pursuit… at any age or level of competency. There is great joy in getting better at something… especially golf, because of it’s obviously inherent difficult nature.

I just want to add, that as a current 12 handicapper, the Hogan Modules have been immensely helpful to me. It doesn’t matter that at age 67, it’s unlikely given my lack of distance at my age that I’ll ever get down to low single digits…. but it doesn’t matter, being able to hit 1,2,3 irons well at my age, with ability to control the ball and trust them….. life doesn’t get much better than that! All due to the ABS modules (been working on them since Jan 2023) and the Hogan Modules starting early this year….. it’s been well worth it to me.

Here’s what the January 2026 swing progress looks like. I have a LONG way to go in the Hogan Modules, but the Hogan tripping the shaft, weight transfer, explosion to the finish…. all of these fundamentals ARE making a noticeable difference in my ball striking. Hogan Modules have added significant progress on top of the ABS modules that I’ve been working on for 3 years. I have progress in:

  • Advanced Ball Striking Module 3 / Hogan Explosion to FInish = my post impact pivot thrust much better

  • Advanced Ball Striking Module 2, Hogan Module Weight transfer and Hogan transition better

This after doing 100-150/day “magic trick” Hogan Module pitch shots average 5 days a week since I signed up for the Hogan Modules when they were released earlier this year.

And as a result, the Hogan Modules also make me realize that I now need to be going back and deeper re-learning ABS module 1 , to relearn better and deeper how to strike ball from hip high with shaft flex, lag, and body!

For me as a current 12 handicapper , it’s been a worthwhile journey.

Not all of us are young or as talented as some (younger) ABS superstars … I am at peace with fact that my rate of improvement isn’t headed towards as low a handicap as some others….

The ABS Modules and Hogan Modules have worked better for me than any thing else I have studied in golf. I’d consider myself part of the ABS 100% success rate.

I am just now after 3 years of ABS and 1 year of Hogan Modules, getting to the point where I can acceptably hit and play golf the heavy, flat ABS-spec 1969 Hogan Bounce Sole blade irons ( 6 degrees flat, stiff tipped shafts, D6 swing weight). This is an achievement for me, it has taken a (long) while to learn enough ABS skill to do this. 3 years may be on the longer end of the ABS student elapsed time required continuum, but it’s my journey and while slow, it has been well worth it. I hit shots today I never could have dreamed of 3 years ago (and I am still improving slowly at age 67 yrs old) Remarkably to me, I can hit the 1, 2, 3 irons reasonably well and I can trust them …. That’s something I could NEVER do before and is a great satisfaction for me. I can now hit the Neil Gascoigne-built Titleist 975D super stiff shafted driver well. I can hit my (growing) collection of persimmon drivers well and vintage classic blade irons well. Thank you, ABS and Hogan Modules.

These January 2026 swing videos show clearly much more to keep working on. I credit the ABS drills, methodology and 3 yrs of applied practice…. without them, I would not have the improved swing and ball striking today. Apologies to my ABS forum-mates about using the frying pan modern driver…. My golf buddy is a Cobra fitter and he’d asked me to send him some videos of me hitting Cobra gear.

I spend majority of my time practicing and playing with vintage ABS spec irons and vintage Hogan woods which continues to freak out my golfing buddies …. When I’m asked or challenged to “what can you do with modern gear” I can show them I can hit the modern stuff also (much better than I ever did before). Importantly, I notice that I always need to get back to the heavy, still older era ABS-spec golf equipment to keep improving…. If I play with the modern gear too much, I can feel the deterioration in my body-rotation hitter ABS/Hogan Modules skill sets.

So we will see what 2026 has in store. I am slowly getting more of the ABS/Hogan principles into my swing. I am just not able to learn and improve skill any faster than I am, despite constant practice and I am ok with that, it’s my journey and I am enjoying it. In combination with working on my short game, putting, sand play, and course strategy, even though I just turned 67 I am enjoying practicing and improving more than ever. I even think my ABS/Hogan Module work can stand up to some speed training now, finally. I have low expectations knowing I may never get to the low single digit handicap at my age (can’t swing fast enough to hit the ball far enough), but I do feel constantly that I am “on the verge of a significant drop in my handicap“ … We’ll see and whether that happens or not.

Bottom line: I enjoy practicing ABS/Hogan Modules immensely, even more than playing golf!!!
