I was taught a swing pattern that had me more on my left side with a steep shoulder plane, side tilt and low back extension (lordosis.). And I started to develop low back pain. I knew that the back extension (reverse spine angle) was a problem but I did not make the connection to the shoulder turn angle until getting into this program. ABS advocates a flatter shoulder turn and while practicing this, it seems like I can turn my trunk and shoulders more without pain. So am I correct about this? Is a flatter shoulder turn easier on the low back?
Thanks!

No doubt in my mind a more level shoulder motion is much easier on the body overall but starting with proper posture is probably best looked at first. More importantly perhaps, questioning what you’ve been taught goes a long way toward settling how those interconnected pieces and concepts are seen by you to be settled within you, so that’s a good thing.

Thanks. I recently began seeing a TPI certified PT and I have an appointment tomorrow so I am going to ask him about this.
After this experience I am surprised by the number of instructors I see on YouTube saying “shoulders down”. I used to have a flatter shoulder turn until I was taught more down and more side tilt. I’m pretty sure that is what caused my back problems.
Thanks.
