Interesting how many of the comments reject the idea. I suppose no one wants to look like a fool with a frying pan driver if the pro game went back to golf.
It’s two different games.. just needs to be acknowledged. The modern game is simply a different game. What needs to happen is bring back golf and let people decide which game or events they want to play..
As I read these notes I was holding an old Titleist Tour Balata 90 (with a slight bulge on it) and thinking about the days when wood was wood and irons had little or no offset. The older equipment is still valid and quite usable. But it will take time to have newbies discover the fun and craft in older equipment.
Can’t find my old balata ball with a perfectly symmetrical smiley face cut in the cover. I had it sitting in a shot glass near the Rat desk as a fond memory when things seemed way more challenging. Good comedy relief too in the comments.
I have to admit that it was funny to have to check them every couple of holes for the roundness. Especially if you golf swing was set up as @twomasters said in one of his YT videos “to punish balata golf balls”
