Odd Meter Timing and Range Runout

A while ago there was discussion on ABS about timing sensations in good swings being odd meter like Snead’s waltz time in 3/4. At that time, I was leaning more toward common time at 4/4 while Lag came in living within the 5/4 odd meter camp, and I suspect he still resides at that address.

5/4 had been rattling my cage for quite a spell as it was the first time hearing about it, but I came around to 5/4 but from a little different examination.

If sensing a swing relative to anatomical range run outs a good swing can, and maybe should, have 5, as seen in the picture sequence.

When range run out is reached something else has to happen next in line for swing continuation and the smooth blending of 5 range of motion run outs would indeed feel like 5/4 time. Funny how that stuff works. This is where I perceive the range run outs occur from 1 thru 5. Interesting parallels.
