Lag, lightbulb moments and videotape

Whenever I put module stuff on youtube, I make sure it’s unlisted. The only way to get to it is with the link. I’m pretty sure that was recommended on here somewhere in the video submission guidelines.

The protocols for the module work are very tight. A student needs supervision and I don’t think I have ever had a student that never needed any adjusting to master any module for that matter. All the little things are critical to best train both efficiently and effectively.

The goal for myself and I am sure Bradley as well, is to help golfers improve their ballstriking. Keeping secrets or creating an aura of mystique and mysticism don’t help people improve. The module tuition gives a student the chance to have us work directly with them under our guidance and watchful eye. Every student is different and we have to make a lot of judgment calls based upon a player’s ability, age, physical conditioning, flexibility and so on. The intentions are very strict but we also work with players individually and do tailor things to them specifically, especially in later modules. It’s really not a cookie cutter methodology across the boards by any means. I do teach hitters because I believe it to be the best method to strike a golf ball for many reasons. The first three modules which are required to enter the program, usually covers 6 to 8 months of instruction, so we try to make this affordable for students. The Butch Harmon approach… if you want to work exclusively with Butch, is very expensive and not within the accessibility of most golfers.

The goal here is to offer very in depth, extensive, professional instruction over a greater period of time, and keep the tuition manageable for most golfers.

While I do get many positive emails from casual ABS observers, I don’t think viewing a few youtube videos of students attempting module work would suffice to give a student the best chance of success improving their swing entirely on their own efforts. But at the same time if some concepts presented in the public area help a lightbulb go off here or there… then that’s great.

The private side of ABS is equally as large as the public side, and there are much more detailed explanations of things on the private side… such as vids, pics and diagrams designed specifically for ABS students… while the public offerings are a bit more general in nature.

Most of the module videos have additional supplementary videos that have been put up over time to deal with repeating student issues that keep coming up… or sometimes I find new or better ways to explain things through visuals, diagrams or additional drills or ball striking exercises.

Congrats NRG on shooting 65 in the comp! Is that a personal best? Would love to hear your thoughts on the round or what has been clicking for you recently. Chip rolling (putting method) is the culprit or just a lot of flashy ball striking? Fun to see, I told you there were more good things to come!

Nothing but inspirational, thanks for sharing.

Congrats Neil!

Can’t wait to hear more about it.

WTG!

Would love to hear details…

Thanks Lads.

It’s hard to narrow it down to one thing Lag, just lots of hard work, I’ve almost worn out the faces on my 7 & 8 irons this year on M8 type stuff. I think rotating the plane out to the right by tilting my spine has made the biggest difference to my game and realizing just how important the left hand only M1 drill is too. I’ve shot 4 pbs this year - a 2 under par 70 in a medal, a 75 off the Championship tees (only get to play those tees a couple of times a year), a 68 with persimmon practicing and now this, though not an official qualifying comp, still pretty cool. There has been a huge improvement with my putting, I used to putt well maybe once a year, now it can happen any time I go out and I don’t practice.

NRG–congratulations on your great play, very inspiring. Could you expand on your thoughts on left hand M1 drill. If you’re more comfortable responding on the private side, I’ll check in there…

Paul,

I realized a while ago that I wasn’t really doing anything with my left arm apart from holding onto the club.
The left arm to me is better suited to rotating the club, esp earlier in the downswing.
So by not rotating the club with the left, all I could do was throw the right arm at the ball.

To shoot those scores, you have to make some putts regardless of how good you hit it.
The chip rolling method I have introduced to you and a few of the guys has been a real game changer
for me.

Would love to hear some of your thoughts on how that has been developing… such as did it work for you right away, or did it take a few months to get it into your game as a natural feeling? Pretty instant for me, but I was also very aware of what was going on technically.

It’s all right here…
slotted… cupped left wrist at transition,
knees initiating transition right down to the 4:30 line
shaft on the chi line at P3
Good ground pressures in the right foot
hands low at impact holding wrist cock to take advantage of the flat lie angles
Fantastic level shoulder rotation going through pulls the sword from the stone.

How to shoot 65? This is one way to do it.

I putted fine the first season whilst getting the hang of the chip rolling method, nothing much better or worse than before really.

But I’ve had lots of good putting rounds this year, probably my best putting year since I was a Junior.

NRG,

Do you have any new aiming “rules of thumb” now such as from 100 yards you aim your body 8 feet left of normal? 15 feet left from 150 yards? I’m sure it is diffrent for everyone but what kind of numbers are working for you? Also I’ll get out my handy metric to yards calculator if needed

Thanks

I don’t do anything like that Mashie. I tilt my spine which aims me out to the right, then shuffle my feet round to the the left so that I am aiming at the target. I do that whilst waggling with my right elbow pinned to the hip.

Two really good lightbulbs there, Neil. Very helplful. Are you in the superslotting module?

Thanks NRG

No probs Mashie.

Paul, yes, I’ve been working on the Super Slotting module for a year.

Real nice NRG…wondering if you have discovered some ‘secret’ club bends along route 65. Nice playin’

I always wanted to bend a shaft to look like a snake coming from the hosel and ending at the grip. I’ve tried all kinds of things, but the shaft always crimps. I can get one, or two, flowing curves like the picture below, but when I try to get 5 or 6 bends along the way, which I would prefer, the shaft wall just won’t take it and creases.

Just something I have wanted to play around with for the hell of it… any ideas on how to bend the shaft like this:

Yeah Rat, it’s all to do with the clubs. Why you want a club like that? You been on the Blue Smarties again?
