Jim Nance today “I use old cell phones and persimmon woods”

Hope everyone else is watching Pebble Beach and heard Jim Nance say that he is using an old cell phone and a persimmon wood because Pebble Beach is his home course

Doh… Jim Nantz (not Nance). Just re-checked it was around the 43 minute mark. He made the comment after an AT&T commercial was saying 40 years ago we used to use clunky cell phones and persimmon woods but don’t use them anymore. Jim Nantz then went on to say “When he was showing that persimmon wood and clunky phone, I actually still do use both of those!” And then Trevor Immelman laughs and says “Why am I not surprised?”

Given that you both live in the Bay Area, JohnE, maybe you can connect with Jim Nantz and have him on your podcast and get him to tell us all more of his story???

p.s. this was from the 3rd round on Valentine’s Day. The CBS broadcast started at 3p EST and the remarks are at 3:43p for anyone who keeps an online YouTubeTV library or equivalent.

BTW just got back from Florida and got to hit this for the first time. I’m 67 and outdrove my partners on the 1st hole with a low bullet right over the candy stick. Hit my best drive on 18 about 240 yards into a short par 4. I had zero drives OB for the first time in memory, and shot dispersion was much tighter. B/C it’s heavier (16 oz) you can feel the clubhead through the whole swing, and the steel shaft reduces the whippiness I used to have with the old “regular” graphite shaft.

Total upgrade! And as you can see - it’s beautiful. The master clubmaker, David Bass, recommends “use Lemon Pledge and don’t hit range balls with sand on them. Wipe the ball off each time.”
