Ok I’m at the point where I have to say I’m actually striking the ball the best I have in years with a small tight cut as my stock shot. I have to relinquish the chase of positions and keep the focus on results because I tell my clients all the time that chasing positions will put you into rabbit holes but chasing dynamics will lower your scores. I’m taking my own medicine.
Cheers
Golf is a target game. If the ball goes where you want and you have low scores, the rest doesn’t matter.
So many great strikers had oddities to their swings. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think most golfers are better off not seeing video or photos of their swings…
Working on motions finding positions is always good medicine. ![]()
Positions can be a drug when it comes to golf. I gave had clients that hit the ball extremely well and say coach but I want my shaft to be here at this moment. I always ask why and rarely if ever can they provide a dynamic reason why.
I would say yes and no. I have a few college players that are anal about positions and will send me video ofca swing andI always ask where did the ball go ? Those players only should video their swing once a month ![]()
Went to the range yesterday with just a seven iron and a newly made setup board and old boss used to use. It’s much like @twomasters ”Down under board” just a bit thinner and has lead foot angled out a bit. I had forgotten how good it felt to just fire the golf ball on line. A little squeeze tension on the board, feeling the ground, following the proper path and bang. Only one other person on the range. Nice younger fellow who was struggling starting out. He spoke to me and said wow you hit it really consistently. Then later asked what does the board do? He was reverse pivoting path was all over the place. I got him started on a better pivot and path with a hinge and hold drill and sensing the weight moving to the heel and then to the toe. Before long he was hitting satisfying 100 yard 9 irons without feeling any effort at all. Was so excited he went in and got more balls to hit.
Those are the best days, especially as a coach it’s extremely rare that I don’t get interrupted during my personal training sessions. Someone always wants to come over and talk about their swing issues even though they see me at the very end with my balls methodically laid out in groups of 5 they still walk straight up and start a conversation. I cherish the days when the range is empty.
