Hitting Balls with Persimmon Driver

I was told that current golf balls will crack persimmon woods. Is that correct? Do I need to worry about the balls I use with persimmon woods?

thanks!

Nah, you can hit anything. The new harder balls might not feel great but I don’t think they’re going to damage your club.

I play Taylormade TP5s and have not had a single issue, I was told by a master restoration technician for persimmons that 50 degrees is about as cold as you really want to play in with persimmons and he also said if you are playing in the colder temps do not play any ball that has tour on it. He recommended that you play extremely low compression balls in cold temps and when it warms up then you can go back to your normal ball. So I’m playing Callaway super soft this winter even though I’m on record for a few years claiming that they spin way too much for my swing dynamics. But I will take the extra spin in order to preserve the condition of my woods.

Ah yeah I didn’t really think about that. I’m sure a lot of you guys have to worry about the freezing cold weather. I’m lucky to live in NorCal near the coast and we don’t hardly ever get conditions anywhere close as brutal as other regions.

Honestly that may turn out to be the best argument for metal “woods”. Their true use case. Something you can hit when you don’t want to risk damaging your real golf clubs!

Spot on normally in the winter I pull out my Titleist 975D probably one of the last small head metal woods at 260 cc.

There ya go! That totally makes sense. Probably nice to have a driver that’s safe to hit hard in freezing conditions that doesn’t look like a giant toaster sitting behind the ball. Just keep those hands warm sir!

Yes indeed pocket warmers in both pockets hit your shot hands go to the pocket as you walk to your ball. Rinse wash repeat and smile in the clubhouse with a nice single malt

Alwaya amazes me that the 975D is only 260cc cause they’re not exactly small. 976R is a good option that does actually have a small head.

I have the D and the J they are different animals for sure David Duval played the 975D and Justin Leonard played the 975J . Both are still in my top 5 best drivers ever made.
