Equipment that the best players are using

Taylormade probally puts out some of the best content on social media the last few years with their staff players. Tiger hanging out with the other staff and all of them picking out a particular shot to hit and all of them doing it differently but all with crazy success on demand then trying the other profesional method to see how different it is.

Currently they are doing a series where two players go head to head but have to play the other players equipment and ball. I watched Rory McIlroy versus Tommy Fleetwood the other day and it was really good. Rory plays 1 degree upright with Project X 7.0 and a ball that does not spin as much.
Fleetwood plays 1 degree flat with 1/8th increments as the club gets longer towards the upright side with Project X 6.5 and a ball that spins a lot.

The adjustments these amazing players had to make were eye opening nut they didn’t change their swings they found the proper start gate for the ball and they alluded to you probably will not find two players on tour playing the same specs and set ups.

The amazing thing is after 1 hole both players knew the adjustments they needed to do to control the ball and neither one even thought about changing their swing to match the equipment they simply adjusted to the equipment and trusted their swings that they have drilled into machine like motion.

Rory puts a little ulnar deviation ( downward unhinging) at impact thus why he plays upright irons. Whereas Fleetwood stock shot is a draw so he prefers flatter lies that match his rotational acceleration that he builds up through the strike.

Even their bag set up were interesting Fleetwood carry a 9 wood so Rory had to use it and no matter what swing he put on it it went 230 yards and that really shocked him. But he preferred his 5 iron because it provided more options to control trajectory & distance.

Fleetwood mentioned that Rory clubs were a bit heavy for his liking and we are only talking 3 grams per shaft but his feel was so good he could tell the difference in 3 grams.

It was really interesting to see how the best players in the world set up their bags for their tendencies and also solidified how equipment can make or break a golf swing.
Cheers
