I have a set of these in 2-W with a FG17 1 iron that are heads only since before I can remember. I am considering restarting them but wondered about what members here might be doing about the fluid feel insert plug. It was placed in the bored through portion of the clubehad and extended up into the shaft. Usually the burned out when shafts were removed(what happened here most likely) and club makers rarely did anything but clean out the hosel and jam a shaft back in. The rubber plugs don’t exist anymore and some sites say to fill with RTV silicone.

Interesting and thank you. The original was rubber and intended to dampen vibration but I wonder if these would perform similarly

Many moons ago when I was an apprentice pro, we sometimes used bamboo tees as well.

Oh yeah I was an apprentice back then and remember that too. Cut shims for shafts out of aluminum foil too. I’ll have to experiment. Honestly I don’t know if the material really mattered but, that was the intention of the insert. Keep you posted

Very helpful. I have a nice set that I wanted to add weight to but the original plugs go pretty far up the shafts. I might be any to use these to redo the plugs and add the weight I was hoping for.

OK so here’s the direction I chose. In the case of the iron heads I have the plugs were in excellent condition at the bore through area. So, instead of trying to remove them I’ve gone the route of filling the shaft tip with silicone. I am using the Lexel clear. I’m boring these out to accept a .370 Apollo shaft so the hosel bore is nice and clean and fresh. After a little acetone wash to rid of cutting oil residue I mix the epoxy with some shafting beads. I weigh all the components after tipping the shaft to get me a target for the addition for the silicone. Squeeze the silicone into the shaft tip weighing as I go. After adding the glue it does pressurize but a slow push allows the air out through the silicone with an audible pop. I let the epoxy cure head down on the work bench to allow the silicone to settle back. So far so good! From the few balls I’ve hit they feel quite good. Not original for the purists anymore but very playable.
