Pivot Lag - what is it really?

Lag - I seem to remember you mentioned Pivot Lag in one of your previous posts. I have never really understood exactly how this works and searching around the web hasn’t turned up much. Could you give us a quick overview on where it comes from, why its a good thing (or not) for most people, how you know your experiencing it etc?

Cheers, Arnie

Think of the torso as the motor…

The torso rotates on the backswing, pulling the hips, knees, and pressuring the feet… there is a lagging sequence.
On the downswing, foot pressures, and knee flex initiate the change in direction therefore creating a pivot lag against the torso. Once the ground pressures are established, the torso decelerates slightly allowing the arms, hands and club to catch up.
With proper ground forces… you can think of the torso as a motor mounted upon the legs… it will then gain it’s own momentum and pass up the hips, and this is the second stage rocket firing… so then the torso moves toward finishing aggressively and creates pivot lag again pulling against the resistance of the lower body, and we have the torso creating pivot lag again into the finish with the lower body being pulled by the torso…

Lag in anything is really just a condition of something leading and something trailing…
