Bradley at the Australian Open 2010

I totally respect what Bradley decides to do… trying to push him into playing more events is not my place. Financial (and personal) issues are real for everyone in these times and those of us who would like to live a bit vicariously through twomasters can be a bit selfish when we demand he continute to “try”.

However… I think there’s got to be a way to allow Bradley to at least be able to focus on an Australian adventure each year. Having a 2-time Australian Masters champion not be able to “defend” annually is a travesty in my mind, especially when you see the buzz he creates and when you realize the benefit to ABS. I don’t care what anyone thinks about having a tour player validate a golf website I think it’s a very real thing.

What if we put up a thread (public or private) that allows one to contribute some jingle toward sending Bradley to Australia each year to play in the same 2 or 3 events? Over a 12 month period I’m guessing we could raise plenty. Every time one of us sells some clubs on ebay or wins some skin money (as a result of our ABS work) or just comes across some cash for no good reason we could send a few dollars that way.

I know Bradley isn’t a charity case, but it seems like we could contribute collectively in a bunch of small ways to allow him to at least prepare for November/December events without any doubt they he can cover it. I have to believe that simply knowing he will be able to enter those tournaments will take some pressure off and really let him focus.

Just some thoughts from one who’s been around some REALLY GOOD players that were “held back” due to financial issues and thinks it’s a shame. As good as they were I don’t think they’re as good as Bradley.

We don’t pay well in Aus. You need to be near the top to make it financially worth while.

Here is the link to the final placings and earnings for those interested.

I agree with Robbo; Whatever we do, we should keep it on the private side.

The money is a lot better than most of the mini tours. Traveling expenses don’t seem to care what tournament you are playing once the plane lands. I know the exchange rate and the taxman take a healthy bite, but I think the Australian Tour does well to award the money they do. It’s a great tour and anyone who has the chance to play down there should feel very fortunate.

here are the Scratch irons that I had made up to my design and how I wanted them to look at address…shaved the toe off to make the head smaller and squarer…has DW…Don White initials as custom designed by the grinder…swingweights…heavy D4 then D8 in the shorter irons and E0 in the wedges
The pic is of the 5 iron and 7 iron

sweet looking set of irons Hugo!

Yes, they are awesome. I need Robbo’s drool-proof keyboard.

I saw on another thread that you had them put DG X100 shafts in. ( I think)
Do you mind giving us your other specs, such as shaft length, overall weight, loft, carry yardage, for your 5i. How does your distance compare with one of your older sets of blades? Did you have anything special done with the leading edge(sharp vs blunted) and bounce?

Is it true they can make a set of irons to replicate any classic blade design?

Thanks!/eagle

Wow the Scratch irons are gorgeous! I wish I was right-handed. I’ve spoken with Ari Techner and they don’t offer the blades in LH.

Back to the grind next week at Kingston Heath in Melbourne for the 2012 edition of the Australian Masters… Practice has been good. Slowly building up with range work and short game work and a few games to get some match practice. Still doing lessons as well in between but much better preparation so far than last year when I had basically zero practice and had to fly from the other side of the world to get here.
I have 2 pro ams on Sunday at Long Island and then Monday at Woodlands to get some competitive work in. Striking it great… looking forward to some good golf. Will also play the New South Wales PGA the week of Nov 26-Dec 2 and hopefully The Australian Open the week after that.
Will try add some pics and thoughts as we go!!

Here is Kingston Heath- magnificent!!!
